Here are a couple shots comparing two pretty much identical No Name Government models. One in Stainless and one blacked out in Melonite.

Is the melonite model stainless or carbon steel?

    Yes it does look good.

That's why I'm thinking about an SS and a Blue.

i always thought that Melonite had a chalky or very very flat appearance but yours has a nice matte with a little sheen to it...Im I seeing things or what? Id have that done to a gun if it comes out like that...no doubt. Are the controls finished differently...they look different and I may have heard that the small parts cant be melonited...?

Melonite can stand out either smooth or chalky. It depends on how the gun is prepped prior to final finish. The controls have melonite on them too.

Good to know on some of the small parts having the same treatment, Jess. I wasn't sure.

The lighting makes a big difference, 230gr; it's hard for me to photograph it consistently. In some of the photos it looks chalky and grey, and in others it looks more flat and smooth. I didn't get mine for looks anyway, but for those who like that, they look to be prepped pretty well.

To the OP, where did you get the Melonite done? I'm new to the forum so if it's common knowledge I apologize.

Dave....the Guncrafter No Name comes standard with Melonite. I do not know where Guncrafter has their Melonite done.

I'm thinking a GI may be next one as well. Those look great, I sure hope the melonite on my STI comes out that nice. Very all businuess looking. TXPO.

Man the 1911 force is pulling me badly. I have been drooling over the thought of a GI LW commander.......:faint: Ya'll will have to forgive me. I have an affinity for commander guns. Dave you will surely get my money when I decide on which one to go with. I have to at least get my STI back before I start panting over another one....:whoo:

You need at least two so when you send one off you have a backup!
