    Here is my choice.

Guncrafter No Name, full size 9mm. (I have one in 45acp and great pistol). I would like to get a 38 Super barrel for it later on. (GI quoted $395.00, fitted, test fired and one Wilson mag). Pistol is used, asking $2500.00.

Les Baer, Commanche, 38 Super (I have a Les Baer, UTC 45acp, runs like a top). Used, person is asking $2000.00.

Wanting to carry it (LB wins), shoot it in IDPA (Guncrafter due to 9mm, full size), Cost (LB wins), Happy over long haul, toss up.

    Your choice and why?

Get the Baer and have a 9mm barrel fit to it and then you can run it in IDPA, carry it, whatever you want to do. If you want to shoot a full size gun in IDPA shoot your LB UTC. Personally, I don't think you'd be giving anything up to run the Commanche in IDPA with a 9mm barrel, the recoil is neglible with either a 4.25 or 5" barrel and the weight difference is only a couple of ounces so there is no big advantage to shooting a full size 1911 over a Commander size in the IDPA game.

Don't know what to say. Wish I had your problem. Decisions, decisions...... Guess you can use Red's money and get both. He might have to sell a cat to get that kind of scratch though.

I would go Guncrafter in this one due to my distrust for LB Commanche pistols and their shortened slide travel.

I'm pretty much a diehard Les Baer fanboy and I will second this statement......

Don't own either, but for me it would be the NN. Its my next 'gotta have' so I'm biased.

I see more complaints about LB than GI here on the boards....not saying there are many, but enough to get my fur up and make me gun-shy.

    ^see what I did there?^ HEHEHE

Plus Alex is a great guy and Les is a bit of a tool I'm told.

In his defense I think Les had been ridden hard and put away wet, during the early stages of his life, I do have to wonder sometimes if the 60's weren't good to him lmao.... Definitely old school of hard knocks i'd say.

I've actually been wanting a Les Baer ever since forever, but recent developments and seeing so many of these really really nice no names I can say it has me teetering on the fence a bit. I understand that LB draw file all their fitted parts, and tbh, the appearance of a recent LB internal that I have seen kind of turned me off. I mean I understand the concept, but a little more detail and finish quality to mating parts would go a long way in my book.

Being the happy owner of a NNC 9mm I would recommend the GI. The rub is I want a Comanche, not right away, but soon.:sneaky:

Go with the GI due to the LB being a Comanche.. I wouldn’t buy anything but a full size Baer if buying a Baer.

Like others have said, commanche Baer is a risk. Get the GI, it's just a better all around choice.

What is this issue you are all referring to on Uncle Les’ Commanche?

Baer uses a Government frame not a commander frame. Some people also have issues with not being able to slingshot the slide and can only use the slide release.
