i've had a few people ask about the differences between the 10-8 plain serrated black rear sight and the Harrison Custom rear. I have both of them and its mostly personal preference:

10-8 is on the right (obviously)

The 10-8 has an angled profile, the Harrison is more vertical

    10-8 has a U-shaped rear notch:

I prefer the 10-8 rear for a few reasons: the edges are smoother, i like the profile, and the U-shape notch just works for me, especially when running it with a FO front sight.

Nice post. Always wonder about the Harrison and how it would stack up against the 10-8. I run 10-8's on two of my 1911s and factories on a couple of other ones.

Also, good to know about the more vertical rear surface on the Harrison. Not a fan of such steep angle.

Good comparison photos. I appreciate it! I have the 10-8 myself on mine. With the white-outlined tritium front sight, it's a pretty fast sight picture. :thumb:

Ya, i've tried a variety of front sights:

For the range i prefer the red FO front.
For carry I like the white outlined tritium.
The silver outline tritium dot is Springfield's standard for night sights and i still have them on my EMP and full rail TRP, ill likely be changing the sights on the EMP soon.

I like the wide notch, .156", plain black 10-8 rear sight with a white outlined tritium front sight for my carry and defense purposes. I do like fiber optic front sights for just range use too. I notice the gold bead front sight is gaining some ground these days, I might have to try one of those.

If you hang around with Quack for any amount of time, you'll find that you'll be putting 10-8 rears on your guns.

They just seem to work better.

I'm following Claires lead and instead of putting tritium on the guns, i'm gonna try FO on the STI Tactical and the SACS 9mm

To me, night sights are great if you're shooting in the closet with the door closed. I have FO fronts sights on 3 of my 4 guns.

I just used the front tritium because they came with the gun. the sights i'm swapping are black sights and i though i'd go with FO's since i actually like them on my "target" style 1911's
