Hi Addicts. I need your help. With a new cleaning kit in hand I dove into cleaning our pistols; a Glock 42, two Kimber Micro 380s and a Springfield Range Officer Elite 9mm.

Everything was going well and I was feeling pretty good. Well, until it came to putting the RO back together. I can’t get the slide stop to go in. There is a tube mounted horizontally from the safety going forward to where the slide stops goes. A pin on the end of the tube seems to be in the way. At least that’s what it looks like to my noob eyes.

I’ve attached photos. Hoping someone can help me figure this out. My RO looks sad sitting there partially assembled (and I’m feeling rather embarrassed)

Move slide rearward until small notch lines up with slide stop . Use thumb to push up and in on slide stop . Some people take something and hold pin in slightly . I've never had to . Watch a you tube video if you have to on 1911 field strip and re assembly , don't make an " idiot scratch " .

Better to ask and be safe vs scratching up your pistol!

have you tried unplugging it, and then plugging it back in?

10-8 sells a nice tool for dealing with those pins. I use them all the time and since they are polymer they don't scratch anything up.

Most of my 1911’s go back together with no problem but for a couple of them I have to use a credit card to hold the pin in while inserting the slide stop

    Thanks everyone.

She’s together now. About the time I read the responses my wife came in with the tiniest screwdriver I’ve ever seen. Used it to push the plunger pin in and was able to seat the slide lock. No idiot mark either.

You can also cut a little relief in the slide stop that helps push the pin in when you are re-inserting.

My wife cleans all of mine while I'm taking a nap. I get tired at the range all day shooting in the sun so I don't have time, it's nap time. But I do inspect her work when I get up.

BTW, I have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale if anyone is interested.

I showed my wife this post and informed her that I was going to expect the same. She replied with some very hurtful comments. I’m still not sure but I don’t think she’s getting on board with this.

Notch the slide stop with a small file.
It makes re assembly much easier.

The tool looks like a gadget I need. Surprisingly it’s not available on Amazon. (Shocked).

I have a bunch of hotel key cards for whenever I need something that won’t scratch - like depressing the plunger.

If you’re new to 1911’s worried about idiot scratches, check out idiotscratch.com.

Or just file the notch like hks and pool guy said.
Sucks field-stripping in front of others and needing a freaking tool chest to get it back together!! ;)

Or, just use a piece of painter's tape or masking tape.

Be advised that painter's tape will discolor some black finishes. Don't ask me how I know. . .
