help... what causes this

    Help... What is causing this, how do i fix it and will it effect the casing if i wanted to reload. Its coming out of a officer size 1911

    Is the case bulging on those spots?

    Looks like the extractor hook is hitting the brass. It is too long (as in way too long.) You may be able to dress back the hook a little. If it is sticking too far out past the breechface, then a new extractor is in order unless you can weld or silver solder the slot at the rear and relocate it.

    It won't have an effect on reloading. It's usually the case mouth that splits first.

    there is no bulging. and is it something i would be able to do or should i take it to a smith?

    Kruzr is right. Your extractor is too far forward. Personally I would suggest you get an EGW extractor if you know how to tune it yourself as George is making them to the correct dimensions. If not send it to someone that is qualified.
