I stopped by my FFL to pick up a 40x .22 and spotted an M1D on the rack. I have a few Garands but I am relatively unfamiliar with the M1D and want to know what to look for to make sure it’s not pieced together. The details I have off hand and I can get more as I’ll likely be back there Saturday.

-H&R receiver
-M84 scope that had the right patina and appeared to be original production
-T37 flash hider
-$3k price tag. Possibly negotiable as it is consignment.

I guess what should I be looking for the make sure it’s legitimate and any other red flags to watch out for

Go/no go guages help, also errosion guages.

Personally I'd have have it in my hands. I've worked on some Ds.

OP don't expect much from the scope, they aren't great, but it is what it is from those days.

I do prefer the C, I've used G&H mounts on M1As and M1s.

M1Ds were only assembled during rebuild. It would be very common for numerous parts to have varying shades of parkerizing. If the rifle's parts all match in color, it is probably a fake. A lot of them were built by garage gunsmiths with knockoff Chinese parts. There is, or was, a documented USGI M1D for sale over on the FAL Files last week.

There is no documentation and it’s a nice looking rifle, it almost looks alittle too good.
I know the barrel should be with a particular drawing number. Is there anything else I should looks for when I go back to help determine originality?

there is no documentation on the rifle and it’s priced at at $3k
