Went by myself this afternoon and didn't think to take my real camera. But I had my iPhone and took a few. A thread of hikes might be cool.

This is Squaw Peak in Phoenix, urban mountain preserve, challenging hike, but close to home and way more fun than the gym.

    Note Phoenix's infamous "brown cloud".

Great view - thanks for sharing.

BTW - the fuzzy brown lump near the center of the last picture ------ is that the south end of a north bound bear?

Tonto National Forest, Tonto Natural Bridge. For those that don't know, it's basically a huge, but short cave. Hike down into the canyon and it ends here. Very cool, even in the heat of summer. The second one is from near the beginning of the hike. Hard to believe it's Arizona.

Nice pics and good idea for a thread! Is that smog over Phoenix?

It's dust mostly. Not smog per se.

We flew into and out of Phoenix on 9/11/02. We had the plane to ourselves but did not see the smog cloud.

A couple of friends and I went on a camping trip in NW Arkansas to Richland Creek, a part of the Ozark Mountain Region. Very beautiful place to get all the stresses of life out and hit the reset button.
