For 5 inch 1911, hip holster. Currently using Galco Combat Master. A good holster, but does anyone have anything they prefer? What says the hive?

I agree Paul is a phenomenal maker. Really nice guy as well. If you want something that is readily available I would buy a Wilson Lo-Profile. The original one not the second version. I have used a whole truck load of carry holsters and it hugs me nicely. You can snag one of those while waiting on Paul to build you something..

Kramer Leather, forward FBI Tilt...horsehide ( not cowhide ) / horsehide is much smoother, more durable and easier on finish.

I always look to Milt Sparks first. If they have a model you're interested in, check with Allan Yoast to see if he has it in stock.. He's listed as a dealer on the Sparks website. His prices are good, he ships fast, and he's a nice guy to boot.

I ended up getting a 1791 holster as recommended by the op. It makes my 40oz 1911 feel like nothing on my hip.A very well make piece, I urge all to give one a try. Thanks to all cor comments

I tried a couple of these, and found them way too bulky, compared to the Galco Combat Master, which I also use.
They are just way too thick, for any type of concealed carry, except under a heavy jacket, when you're skinny as a rail.

    Ryan Grizzle for me.

TT Gunleather is a close second. I actually prefer their OWB holsters for a revolver.

Holsters are like a lot of other things, everybody has their favorites. These guys here know their stuff and will make great recommendations. However, I want to throw in something different. I used to be all about leather. I did not like kydex. But then I got on to these guys, and I have two of their holsters now. One for my full size, and one for my compact.

I do need to add, whatever holster you choose, make sure you have a good belt to go with it. I'll attach a belt link also.

    Good luck.
