Well, one week from now will be your chance!
I plan on bringing to @limbkiller 's shoot several guns in my regular rotation with which you can give it a go.
I remember the fear and trepidation I had before my first complete strip down. I was afraid of starting with a really nice pistol and ending up with a box of expensive parts. I will be bringing standard full size pistols, those with full length guide rods, those with two piece guide rods, and guns with bull barrels, both full size and shorties.
You don't have to publicly admit you have never done this, just catch up with me at the meet and pull me aside.
I only have two stipulations. 1) we both gotta get the BBQ sauce and grease off our hands, and 2) I get to reinstall the slide stop and I will show you my technique for doing this if the stop has not been modified with the reassembly notch. I haven't put that notch on all of my guns yet.
It should be a great time getting comfortable with fully disassembling a 1911, and you don't have to learn on your own gun.
Besides, I have a couple of surprises up my sleeve as well.
See y'all at the shoot.
