How to properly upload photo's when posting

7056 Views 45 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Pennywise827
Most sites require you to upload your photo's to photobucket or another site and post a link, here at 1911addicts.com you can upload your photo's straight from your computer or cell phone directly in to your post. To do this, you click the button marked "Upload a File" that is between Create Thread and Preview.

This will open up the files on your computer/phone for you to select a photo...as such:
Organism Text Font Vegetable Tomato

Now once it uploads, the most IMPORTANT PART is to select FULL Image. This will keep your photo from being a small icon preview that has to be clicked upon to see the full size image. like this at the bottom of the page.

Hope this helps all the new members, and I wish I knew this before I started posting photos!

This is one huge benefit of this site over "others." Kudos to @Jelly for providing the server space to do this!

One of the big reasons I became a supporter. I don't have to pay "others" for hosting photos here.

hate showing my ignorance, hate it. when I push "upload a file"it goes to a page showing "many" options on the computer. My wifes work computer. I do not want to be THERE!

HOW do I load pics from my cellphone. Thats where MY pics are, I do not want to import them to her computer, nor do I know how. Sorry everyone
Send the picture to yourself. This will resize it. Then save the picture you received. Depending on what kind of phone you have, after you hit Upload a File it will take you into your saved pictures. If you have an Android and can't figure it out you can call or text me and I will tell you how. If you have an iPhone I'm not sure but it is probably similar.

No, its OK. When you click Upload a File from your cell phone, it should bring up some options to choose from depending on what kind of phone you have. Mine says "Choose an action" then the icon for camera, camcorder, HD audio recorder, and documents come up.

I choose documents, and then scroll through till I find the photo. Then once uploaded choose Full Image.

Now if you want to post from a computer, go to your wifes picture file, right click, choose new, then folder. Name it William pics.

Email your photo's from your phone to an email you can retrieve from that machine and save them to that file.
Photobucket has become a SUPER S L O W pita to do anything on. Maybe it's better if you're a paying member. Anyone know?

No, but it is such a pain that I rarely use it anymore.

Hey Guys,

One of the best "freebies" Microsoft ever published is something called "ImageResizer PowerToy." This is a little known application they distributed free of charge several years ago that installs itself into Windows File Explorer as a "right-click" utility.

All you have to do is right click on a photo (or a group of photos), and this little app will shrink your JPG or other image files by about 80% with no real apparent loss of quality. I use it on just about every photo I've uploaded here. Takes a 2.5MB file and reduces it to about 250KB.

I am posting a copy of this tool on my DropBox public folders page. You need to grab this one fast, as DropBox is discontinuing Public Folders on March 15th.

(It is small enough of a ZIP file to e-mail, I just thought it would be more convenient to allow you all to grab it. It is very hard to still find this "in the wild." I downloaded the installers and saved them to my PC's a few years ago. Any Google searches for it these days take you to the multitude of download scam sites. Just grab it here from my Dropbox at the link below.)

Anyway, it says XP & Win7, but works fine on Windows 10. Do NOT install the XP version (32-bit) if you are running Win7 or above (64-bit). You're welcome, and enjoy!

Hey @Kmoyer , this is that application I was telling you about. Click on the link below.

Hey @Jelly , I promise it is NOT nefarious. You may want to grab this and make it available to the members after 3/15. It will definitely save you server storage space and processing (if you are doing automatic file size reductions).

I don't know. It's a pain in the arse though. I quit posting pictures on TOOS because it's like filling out an online job application to do so.

Another reason I like this site and would pay extra on my Supporting Addict fee because of the ease in actually adding pictures. Don't take that to heart, Jelly. :cool2:
