As compared to others such as Armor Tuff, whatever DW uses, Perma Kote, Hard Hat...etc?

After 4 months of daily wear in a VM2.

Hard hat is just another name for melonite. Melonite wins for toughness but is applied at very high temps. That's what newer DW'a use. Talked to John Harrison about it and he doesn't recommend it. The high temps affect fit after treatment.

Heard good things on EB forums about gen3.

I may go with stainless, as I'd hate to have to get a gun refinished within the first year.

Don't refinish it, used guns look cool.

Once GenIII wears, it'll resemble worn bluing.

And why are you looking at a black gun? You will end up hard Chrome it anyway.

GenIII wears extremely well for a shake and bake finish. It also is the best looking spray on finish out of all that I have seen. It's not going to be as tough as the melonite type finishes but IMO it looks better.
