I have a hard chromed Commander and put the slide stop back in. Didn’t press on it. Didn’t put any pressure on it. Rotated it up by lifting it with one finger and that’s all it took.

    It just makes me sick.

Tried emailing Metaloy but their email bounced back. They don’t take phone calls. I’m going to get it fixed somehow then use a SS with the logman mod.

I need to slap myself for not being more careful.

Congratulations, you have completed the initiation into the 1911 brotherhood, welcome to the family of idiots! Two groups of 1911 owners, those who have scratched and those who will.;)

As a new 1911 enthusiast, this is my worst fear. I even bought those cheesy idiot scratch plastic protection thingies. I use them shamelessly too.

Put a plunger pin groove in your slide stop like many quality gun & parts makers... problem solved... see youtube for help.

Step 1. Place the UNLOADED 1911 on the Kitchen table or somewhere that it has to be moved. 2. When you return and it's been moved(even slightly). 3. Look what you've done! It's ruined. Now I have to pay to have it refinished again. Damn it. I can't even blink an eye around here!

Yea I firmly believe that anyone that has field stripped a 1911 has done this, if they say they haven’t, then Karma will get em.
As said above, welcome to the club. Post pics because there are some finishes that can be remedied without sending out.
Or don’t worry about it & add another 10k rounds and more scratches.
    Good luck!

I had a WC EP, slide stop is a little picky on them, put a nice mark on it. Welcome to the club.

The gun is worthless. If you ship it to my FFL, I will see to it's final resting place.

LOL, the gun will still shoot, the sun will rise. If it really bugs you, get it refinished.

I did it myself for the first time this year. And yes, I did have the gun refinished. LOL

    @K5FAL

Not bad. I hope you're not like me though. I would know it’s there and would have to take care of it. I wish I wasn’t so ocd about my things.

Since hard chrome is supposed to be a rather tough finish, you might try a little oil and a Scotchbrite pad and see if it's just residue from the slide stop (carefully and gently). I once picked up a Dan Wesson in Duty Coat pretty cheap with an idiot scratch. Come to find out, there really wasn't a scratch, just metal left behind on the surface of the finish from the slide stop.

That'd bother me, too. We've all done it, or will. Life goes on.

Hell, I got a new in box Colt once, that came with the scratch. Happens to everyone. There is a thread in here where members posted pics of theirs. Look through it and you will feel a whole lot better about that little scratch. I would not worry about refinishing it, it could happen again one day.
