Public ranges are a place to be

    1. Amused
    2. Frightened

I went to a public, outdoor shooting range here in Pittsburgh and I overheard the following conversations all within about 10 minutes:

Guy 1: "My buddy was a Marine in Iraq and he told me it was a lot like Call of Duty."
Guy 2: " Yeah Ive got a buddy who is a sniper..."

I lol'ed and moved down the line from these knuckleheads.

A little later a guy brought his buddy who is new to firearms out to the range. I noticed them as they came up next to me because the "experienced" guy had a 1911.

New Guy " What does the lever do (pointing at the thumb safety)
"Experienced Guy": " That is the thumb safety, it does not work on mine because I shaved it. You dont need it really need it on these."

I had just finished up my last magazine so I packed up and left.

I miss being able to go out and shoot in the back 40 :30_002:

Look at the bright side....you could be here in Ohio, look up to see two Asian guys, a short white bald dude, and a BUNCH of 1911s in the stall next to you. LOL

When the tall, skinny Asian dude asks if you would like to see his balloon knot......word to the wise.....just follow Nancy's advice.

I shoot pistols at a private range and I actually like it better than shooting on the farm. I guess the "dedicated" part is what I like . No distractions like wind, rain, bugs, grass, watching for people, etc.. When I enter the lane it's all about shooting and easier to focus I guess.. Ron

Im thinking about joining a private range. Im just trying to find one not more than 30 mins or so. I think there is one in the Beaver Falls area.

being in the philly burbs, we get the city dwellers coming out from time to time.

I stick with the outdoor range...it has too many rules for them.

Ive always gone to the outdoor range cause it has cheaper fees (less to maintaine). But like you, ive seen my share of stupidity and dont want end up a statistic. So im looking into the indoor range which about a 5min drive for me down the road. More pricey but better facilities and the "others" dont pay the price so cuts down on the "riff raff" haha
