Do any members have one of these? I particularly like the pinned grip safety. Think Alchemy can do one this well? Maybe Les Baer?

I almost hate to say it, but I have a soft spot for a Fitz Special. And as far as Fitz Specials go, that is a pretty cool one. The Ranger vibes are strong with it

Really the only reasons I could see for hating on this pistol is a person either A. Hates fighting handguns B. Hates history, especially that of the Texas Rangers, or C. is completely oblivious to what they are seeing.

I believe this gun was done up in the 40's and although the trigger guard mod hasn't aged well, the pinned grip safety heavily dehorned thumb safety, serrated front strap, unique front sight mod, and of course open trigger guard point to the fact that this gun was modified with the sole intent of making the gun a better fighting handgun, and was carried by someone "Ranger" who needed any advantage they could get.

I’m in the oblivious category. That’s why I asked. Tell me about the trigger guard. The pinned safety I understand.

The trigger guard was removed with the idea to make it easier/faster to get your finger on the bang switch. The thought being that redundant safeties and fairly small trigger guard area of the 1911 could be improved on. Several Rangers pinned or tied down their grip safeties feeling the thumb safety was plenty, the Fitz specials take it to the next extreme of removing the trigger guard, possibly inspired by the Colt Patterson.

Obviously most have gone on to decide trigger guard removal isn't the best approach, but it is hard to deny it does make it easier to get on the trigger. For me it is an interesting piece of fighting handgun evolution. Imagine how Agency Arms guns will be viewed in 70 years.

I believe this particular gun is in the Texas Ranger Museum, although I don't know who the owner was.

I was oblivious as well. I hadn’t looked too closely and the trigger guard drew all of my focus. After your comment, I looked more closely and understand exactly what you are saying AJP. Thanks
