I would spend money in custom, semi-custom 1911 but not 2011. What is your take?

Regardless of the caliber, 1911s are iconic and worth the money!

Here's my "Danny Downer" response, "I'd hate to drop big bucks on a custom 2011, then one day be restricted to 10 round magazines." Regardless, if I were to drop the big bucks on a custom, it'd be a single stack 1911.

But with a single stack youre limited to 8 rounds, maybe 9 rounds unless you want some ugly long stick hanging from the bottom of the frame. Im not sure I understand your logic. Even at 10 rounds in the 2011, its more than a single stack.

You need to shoot an Atlas or Infinity, it is a revelation.

My take, you say? I love traditional looking 1911's. Custom or otherwise. Perfect feel in the hand for me, at least.

I have absolutely nothing against a 2011s, but they're not 1911's. If I want to shoot a double-stack, I'm perfectly content with my Sig P226 SAO's (19 rd. mags) from the German Master Shop. The ones I have, at least, cede nothing to the 1911 in terms of smoothness, accuracy, and trigger.
Agreed!
It would be best if you shot an Atlas or Infinity, it is a revelation.
I did; they are fantastic! However, 1911s appeal more to me!

To each his own. I was an early 45 double stack guy with Para-Ordance and absolutely loved them. As for double stacks now, I go with 9mm CZ's and they are perfection.
My favorite 1911, is my custom 1911 that operates flawlessly and is an amazingly close twin to the Longmire 1911.

I honestly can't get over paying that much for low capacity lol
Everyone has both high and low capacities, but, 1911s are iconic, the originals, have more sentimental value and, are more fun to shoot.

This is not about mags restrictions, low capacities, or small hands! 1911s are the originals

I see no reason that both can't be enjoyed.

Firstly I say buy whatever you like and makes you happy. To throw a wrench into the argument; if the 1911 is iconic, why the need then to go full-custom/semi-custom? You are only diluting the icon and JMB's design. Further, one could argue the 2011 is an evolution from the 1911 and a 'full-custom' in a sense.

Air gun Trigger Grey Wood Gun barrel

First round early CMP lottery Service Grade, 1943 Colt slide on a 1945 Colt frame.

In short, I keep my 1911 original and go custom with anything else.

I'm not into all of the silly 1911 "Romanticism" and "Traditionalism" that so many get caught up in.
The 1911 design was the greatest for many decades, but it was surpassed a long time ago.
I'll take my my Staccato P, CZs, HKs, and Walthers over any 1911.
I'll add a couple more reasons I like the 1911. I like all steel guns the most, they feel great. Second, I like the slim nature of the whole package that flows through the entire gun. Third, 2011's in general look ugly. That grip just looks beyond odd

There's a nice Les Baer 45ACP 1911 for sale in the Classified for a little over $2k. Take a look, good for your first 1911...

I purchased a C2 a couple years ago and it truly is a great gun but, what I spent for it is about my limit for a 2011. Not because of what it costs but because it to me is just a piece of equipment (a nice piece of equipment to be sure) to further a goal. For years I lusted after a NHC Kestrel in 10mm or in a pinch 45 acp. That lust was finally cooled to room temperature when I got my head turned by a ACW Quantico in 45 acp. As much as I drool over it I have decided at my age and in my retirement status I just will let this go also! If I was to spend $omething approaching $4k that would be the one. I'll just say this... As I have just stepped into my 70s becoming pragmatic is kind of a turd in the punch-bowl feeling! 😁

I turned 71 this year and some things have definitely changed. I ordered my last "build to order" gun. I won't wait 2 years to get a gun, and I don't buy green bananas. I'll buy guns on the forum and at my LGS ut I don't want to have guns delivered when I'm 80!

I sometimes lust for a gun and in the past if I thought about it constantly for a week, I would buy the thing I lusted over I decided it was easier to get a PT job for 2 days a week than worry if I could afford it or not. I'm happier now not having to worry if I could afford it or not.

First, there are no custom 2011. Those are all production guns from Staccato. Second, you are missing out on truly amazing pistols if you won’t consider a custom widebody.

What are Joe Chamber's wide body? They are custom built to order.

I have all single stacks.I had a double stack 38 super custom built with commander slide and comp. Built on a paraordance frame. I think it had 2 18 round magazines.
