Infinity vs Cabot… people who have owned/handled both… which is better?

There’s a lot of aspects to a 1911 that makes something “superior” in someone’s opinion… I’m not talking about styling or available options or cost or wait time or warranty or anything like that.

From a functional and precision and feel standpoint, who make the best gun? When you pick up the gun and feel the action and shoot it… which gun is “nicer”? Why?

Obviously, I side pretty heavily with Infinity on this one, but then it is pretty well documented that I am just not a Cabot fan. What makes it better? One company is known for pushing the envelope for maximizing the shooting performance of the platform, the other for making silly ridiculously priced gimmick guns.

Sigh… that’s literally what I tried to explain I’m not talking about. I’m not trying to compare a left-handed-Damascus-meteorite-commander to a 38 supercomp 2011 race-gun here… I don’t care about the companies. What they do, who they are, what they think. Really not even their their respective philosophies.

if you picked up similarly configured pistols of each… which pistol is more likely to be superior? Fit nicer, smoother, more accurate, more perfect finish… “better”. Why?

I actually started to go part by part but it read rather harsh "not a fan of Cabot" which I feel is unnecessary. That said, the answer is the same
What pistol does Infinity even make that would be a fair apples to apples comparison with Cabot?

So you are attempting to compare Cabot and SVI as far as their respective build quality and accuracy. I don’t own an SVI, but have shot a couple. I’m not a competitive shooter, but if I was I would definitely field an SVI. I don’t think anyone builds a better 2011 race gun (but that’s just one man’s opinion). I have other wants at the moment, that being said an SVI is on my short list. Cabot builds a great 1911, I own a Nero. It’s a bonafide combat 1911 (think Springfield operator on steroids), I have a handful of 1911’s Full Custom, Semi Custom, and Production guns. As far as build quality and accuracy I only have one that surpasses it, and that’s a Reid.

“Better” and “Superior” are subjective observations. They also come with a certain bias.

I could have Infinity build me an unmarked gun and tell people that Cabot built it. If compared to a gun with “Infinity” markings many would give the branded gun higher marks for a multitude of reasons.

Both companies use premium materials and precision machining. A lot of stuff happens in between though with varying levels of attention to detail.

You’re also comparing two different guns built for two entirely different purposes.

Certain aspects you could judge with certain testing like accuracy. But is “smoother” a true indicator of “better”?

All that said, I think 9 out of 10 on this forum would say the Infinity is “better”. But does that mean the 1 that thinks the Cabot is better is wrong? Not necessarily.

When you get to a certain echelon of gun, the only way to find “better” is try it for yourself. It’s really hard to judge just from word of mouth, at least in my experience.

Whatever you ask/pay them to, I imagine.
They make 1911’s too.

Exactly they'll basically make whatever you want.

They're both top notch guns, which do you like better? IMHO, this is like someone asking "what grips would look better on my gun?" Which feels better when you hold them? I doubt you'll find any difference in accuracy between the guns? If you want to compare accuracy between a Glock and a Cabot, I can do that.

People ask, "talk me into why I should buy xxx?" Again, if you don't like xxx, then me telling you why you should like it is nonsense.

Good luck...

Cabot has come a long way in recent years. The late models ive handled recently, are nice. But Infinity has been at the top for a long time.

The irony is that these two makers have much in common than some are trying to portray. Both build wild ass guns. Both us best materials. Both have hard core engineering and design. Both make all parts internally. Both will let the customer design whatever bat sheeeet idea is in their crazy head. My guess is that there may not be a material difference in bench accuracy or reliability between the two makers. I don't own samples from either but do admire both, for different reasons.

Cabot was too tight and didn’t feel like a practical gun to shoot. Infinity feels like it’s meant to put 100k rounds through it. My Cabot was a very traditional 1911 in .45 that was amazingly well built and had insane tolerances (as stated - felt like everything was undersized by about .001”). My infinity is a 6” race 2011 in 9mm with perfect tolerance that allow for zero movement and feels like a well oiled machine. Accuracy of either is 100% up to the ammo and shooter best I can tell. I’d prefer the infinity at the range any day of the week and the Cabot in my display box. My Cabot was #15 - for whatever that’s worth…but best I can tell, they really focus on collectors and not being range toys

I must admit I love my Cabots. I have several and shoot them regularly, as @95_Integra states, they are made rock solid and are extremely accurate. Cabot makes guns that are collector items and safe queens, but manufactures 6-8 models that are also designed for the range and/or carry. Their guns selling for $4-$5,000 can be shot and shot all day long, and BTW all Cabots come w/ a lifetime guarantee (for the gun, not based on the original buyer). I'm sure the guns they make selling for $40,000 or higher also shoot well and would last for years, but I don't own any of that class. All their guns are made to shoot, even the two guns made out of meteorites actually shoot! They do not currently make 2011 models, but I've never been disappointed in any of the Cabots I own. Here is their stainless Gran Torino, named after the Ford Gran Torino car.

I have one of each. Hard to compare since the Cabot is a 45 1911 and the Infinity is 9 2011. Both are perfection but different from each other in design and execution.

I prefer the infinity by a bit but that's just preference, The Cabot feels like it's a Rolls Royce, the Infinity like it's a Ferrari.

Good comparison, both are tack drivers. I have Cabots in 9mm and 45acp. Love my Cabots, just ordered two more 👍

You bring up a good point, a couple of the Cabots I've seen in the last year or so have started to correct some of my fitment issues (mainly the grip safety) I had with them. I've also been told they will be replacing that heinous thumb safety with a new design. So, they do seem to be moving in the right direction.

They're so different you might as well ask which is better, the number 7 or the color blue. Impossible to answer and basically comes down to personal choice.

However, Cabot would be my answer even though I just said you can't answer.

Great response, but I like NorthNortheast best. However, I'm a little disappointed I didn't think of that answer
