Info on various mid range pistols

Good afternoon,
I am hoping to tap into the vast experience here of the members. Specifically those who compete in self defense type shooting games at a fairly high level and have shot a few of the firearms I am lusting for. I am considering one of the following firearms in the next year. A Sig P226/P229 Legion Single action only, some type of Dan Wesson .45 ACP, or a Staccato C2. It will be used primarily as a range toy until I become more adept at sweeping off the safety on a SAO pistol. I have two 1911 pistols currently but I don't have the fine motor skills to always sweep the safety off during combat type shooting or State qualifications. (LE) I can shoot but that pesky safety throws me for a loop at times. I'm after the fastest and most instinctively accurate of these platforms. I know they're all very good but what do you very good shooters think? Thanks and good health to all.

Alright.... anyone who can offer any input would be appreciated, even if it's not per my original criteria. One of these days I want to throw my money at one of the above. Thank you.

What do you already have and why do you think a new gun will be more responsive?

That said, while I like and do best shooting the 1911 and 2011, I think the Sig would be the best bet for a nice stock gun; there are too many posts of dud 1911 types.
I shoot at milk jugs with my SA Range officer for bar credit. I usually do pretty good if the old timers don't show up. 2nd, or 3rd place gets me enough bar credit to buy a pizza, and a round or two for everybody. So that would be my recomendation . It has a target sight on it..so you can really dial that succer in.. Hope that helps..:)

I have a pair of 1911's left. Both Sig Sauer, a 1911 Carry Nitron with some trigger work and a 1911 TacOps in 9mm. Sold the Colt and AMT years ago. Just looking for a toy more than anything.

You could work on your thumb safety reflexes with those, but if you just want something new, like I said, I think the P226 SAO would be more trouble free. I looked hard at one but saw that its slide stop was no improvement over the one on my DA/SA which took it out of my match bag. It is a fine reliable home defense weapon, though.

Most of the competitors I know to be shooting CZs are using them DA/SA for Production and SSP divisions.

Another thing to consider is what your department authorizes of such off brands.
I guess I'm drawn into the lusting for a higher end pistol by all of the talk on this site and others. I've never went above normal priced handguns. I just figured what the heck, maybe just one in the $1000 to $2000 price range. I've always liked Sigs, they are what I own the most of and I've never had a problem with any of them. Glocks too, they all shoot well and go bang without fail. I've been thinking real hard on a Legion for awhile. I've shot the P226 DA/SA version and it's superb. Then there's the nicer 1911's, which I've never fired. And I've never shot any 2011 variant either. Ah.. choices.
I’ve owned DW Specialist Commanders and the Sig Legion SAO. Both were very good shooters though the Specialist’s needed extractor tuning. The 226 was superb out of the box. I do not compete though, beyond buddy shoot type stuff. Sig now has a special order program so perhaps you could spec out a build that would really check all your boxes? In regards safety’s, you need to practice dry firing, until you can’t miss the safety. The other thing you might do is have a larger, competition safety installed. I like the Ed Brown “ tactical “ safety’s which are wider than most brands. Ed Browns competition safety is really wide, huge even.
I would skip the Sig if you intend to shoot 1911s a bunch. If you get used to shooting with your thumb on top of the safety on a 1911, which works great, you will find yourself riding the slide stop on the Sig. It is perilously close to the thumb safety. (In my opinion it is in a terrible place).
Oh boy, choices. All three companies offer LE special pricing. I'm retired so that increases the Staccato pricing by 5 percent over active LE. I've also read that Staccato is very generous with extra magazines in an LE purchase. I suppose most companies are, at least Glock and Sig are on base pricing and an extra magazine.

Current staccato discount for retired LE is 10%, they do not come with additional magazines.

Only active LE receive 15% off and 2 additional magazines for a total of 5.

There are better deals to be had on this forum for new staccatos.

Staccato C2 for the intended purpose you mentioned.

I just got a P from our own Wichita Gun Club and he basically matched Stacatto’s LE price. My P shoots fabulous and I can’t find a flaw in its appearance or performance. I’ve been retired for 8 years and loving it!👍🏼
Ole' Sea Dragon, congratulations and may you enjoy many years of retirement. God bless. I guess my quandary continues after everyone was kind enough to weigh in. At least it seems like whatever I choose will not be a clunker.
Not retired, but nothing wrong any DW in general. I tried many and gravitate toward gov length and no bob tail. My DW is coming in any day now. Comfort and consistency are the result of repetitions. Slow and smooth, medium paced and smooth. Draw and click and repeat. Dry fire like it is second only to breathing. Have fun, happy shooting .
