Hey yall, so I stopped by my LGS on the way home this afternoon, and found this really cool old school Springfield Govt model .45, with a lot of old school custom work done, the slide is engraved Wells Custom. So doing some quick googling I found shop out of PA under a similar name, I made a quick call and was actually able to speak with the owner, who said it wasn’t his gun but he knew of another Wells custom down here in Ga, though he believes that hes now passed.

I then searched the name he believed the builder to be based off my description, who was a Mr. Jimmy Wells out of Ga, and found a post on 1911forum from way back in the day, and found folks had good things to say about Mr Wells and his work, I am just asking here if anyone else had any experience with his builds, or knowledge of his builds. The shop has an extremely good price on it, so If yall folks have good info I’ll be pulling the trigger. Thanks (the screenshot is of the shop in PA I called, really nice folks who helped me out with no reason on their side too, so I thought I’d show their site.)

I've often wondered what became of Jimmie Wells.
When I did machining for him I did not think he was young man.
I'd happily send him work with an invoice for hundreds and hundreds of dollars,
never had a thought of not getting paid.
He had a source of oversized gunsmith barrels that I suspected were Karts.
'We' once bulit up a 380 Colt, just like a race gun. Perfecty fitted expansion chamber comp and all.
All the bells and whistles of that time.
A true southern gentleman.

I see this is a older post but I have to speak up… IF you find a gun you feel is priced right and especially if it has unique characteristics…. Don’t waste your time on forums asking for should I buy it opinions…. Just BUY IT! You already posted several reasons why you should’ve bought it…. I learned this lesson years ago missing out on something me real gems… when in doubt… BUY THE GUN!
