Some of you addicts already know that Steve worked on a DW Valor 9mm recently for me. I watched his work on a Valor 45 and was ready to take the leap. Thru a series of pm s and great conversations ( I learned a lot) we came to agreement on what I wanted to accomplish. Steve was on point with very productive advise. I’m almost sure that some of you have though twice about modifying a gun that works fairly well . I was anxious about doing it based on my last go round with gunsmithing. That resulted in a series of expensive parts and costly work that produced a expensive pistol that was a group of expensive parts that never came together as a unit . Well I got the pistol from Steve about a week ago . It’s been to an outdoor and indoor range where I shot mostly Federal 124 grain . Let me say up front that I’m far from a 1911 tech. I just know how I like my guns.(as close to perfect as possible) and they need to work properly. The work that Steve on this gun cosmetically is perfect. Everything is cut or polished or filed to an amazing level. I’m hoping that you can start to get the idea from my poorly done photos. The overall look is outstanding. Just beautiful. In the hand the gun just melts into your hand with a high and excellent purchase. Everyone of the external parts blend together with precision. It’s really a great looking gun. How does it shoot? Without hesitation I can say it’s the most accurate pistol I have in the stable currently. (DW PM9,Specialist 45,Sig P210, and some others that aren’t close). Steve did a full reliability and accuracy job and it’s great. All his modifications and hand work make for one easy to shoot pistol. It’s almost like the gun does all the work. Just squeeze the 3.75 # flat trigger line up the gold bead front sight and your good to go. So in summary it was both a pleasure and a privilege to work with Steve on this project and I look forward to working with him again on a full ground up build soon. Here is the build list and some pics. My stocks arrive tomorrow from Bob at Cherokee Hills and I’ll do more pics when they arrive. @FredZ Your photos are actually amazing buddy.. Your were an absolute pleasure to deal with, and I couldn't of been happier that you were and are happy with the pistol. After shooting this one, I almost was about to make you an offer, it is an amazing shooter.. I am very much looking forward to making the next one a dream come true so to speak.. Can't wait to see those awesome grips from Bob.. His work makes everyone's guns look good.. Great choice as far as grips excited to see them.. Have a great Thanksgiving and the rest of your weekend. Sure wish it was warmer here, I'd try to get some shooting in, instead it's back to the old checkering fixture lol,, Thanks for the props and kind words..

I like the aesthetic work, but fit and function is the #1 goal. Have seen a lot of pretty guns shoot average to mediocre. But, I told Fred 1st and foremost was to improve as much as possible the accuracy and function. Dan Wessons are very good factory guns from the start, but are still factory guns..

Firing pin stop, gunsmith fit bushing, checking and tweaking barrel lock up, reliability work, times extractor, etc, take these from good guns to great guns. Then the aesthetics are just a nice cherry on top. ;) Love these as a base gun for sure.

A2 commander next for another forum member can't wait to dig into that one for sure.

Here are some pictures of the Colt Gold Cup that Steve worked on for me-sorry for the poor pitcher takin! I had him serrate the top of the slide, ball mill cuts, french border, Bob Marvel cut, clean up the Colt under cut by the trigger guard, bevel the under side of the slide, fit a beavertail safety, & some ignition work. Steve is easy to work with, has a good turn around,
& does very good work. I'm sure he will be busy in a hurry 20181123_190420.jpg 20181123_190531.jpg 20181123_190519.jpg 20181123_190603.jpg
