I stopped by the Cabela's and found this Colt CC in the Gun Library I couldn't resist taking it home and the wife was encouraging me so ...
I was excited when I first saw it, as it is hard chromed with square checked trigger and front strap checkering looked like my Swenson and it has the “barrel positioner” - but no Swenson markings...
The other noticeable parts are the Kings - safety, slide stop, trigger shoe and hardball sights.
Upon farther inspection the barrel has been welded up all around for a refit, locks up tight!
Anyway here are some pics, I'm hoping someone might have some inkling of who might have done the work Serial # look up is 1974 -

Did Cabela's Know what it was? or just sold as a normal Commander?

They had it for pretty much a Colt Combat Commander Cabela's price ~$850 out the door - seems like what they are going for around here.

Not King's slide stop, though.

I'm not a Kings expert and was using some pics of their builds I had found like the one below:

I thinks it looks pretty much the same save the beveled area on the front.

Watch out for problems caused by a clocking extractor.

I had the same thought but when I disassembled it actually has a bevel on that edge and is not clocked - not sure what the purpose is..

Looks like a great catch for $850!! I'd have grabbed it for that, for sure. Style wise it looks like it could be a King's gun or maybe a Hoag but both marked their builds. The barrel positioner looks very similar to the one in my King's/Capone built '48 Colt-

Thanks, I sure wish it had someones mark on it, I have a Hoag and Swenson both Combat Commanders and the work looks similar - I am happy regardless I feel it was a hidden gem and glad to have found it!
