Is Mil-Comm TW-25B Still the Gold Standard 1911 Grease ?

While Mil-Comm TW-25B grease by all accounts is still the gold standard in firearms greases - it's now upwards of $21 for a 1.5 oz. tube !
I know it's a synthetic grease with great specs meant to be used very sparingly but looking for a gun grease that might be very close to the quality of TW-25B (at a better price) . Under consideration (in no particular order) are :

1) Lucas Extreme Gun Grease
2) Slip 2000 EWG
3) Wilson Combat Grease
4) Lubriplate SFL-0
5) Tetra gun grease
6) Clenzoil gun grease

7) SOTAR Sirracha (You Tube home brew consisting of Mobil 1 synthetic grease + Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic oil mixed together to thin out grease)

Most wheel bearing grease used alone is NGL #2 rated grease (too heavy I believe) while a NGL #1 or NGL #0 greases to be better (slightly thinner) for slides , outer barrels , lugs , sears , springs , etc.

*So , to get back on topic - are you happy to stay with Mil-Comm TW-25B (a great grease) or have you found one of the options above to be more cost effective and still be of excellent quality you would use on the finest of 1911's you own ?

I’ve used a lot of TW-25B and the oil. I started using it with Para Ordinances around the turn of the century. It’s worked fine for me, as have many other oils.

I still use it on my pistols for one main reason. I love the smell.

Guys, ALL grease is formulated as an oil plus a thickener (aka ”soap”). Most of you would be surprised how ”thin” the oil component is in most greases.

Typical soaps are lithium, sodium, calcium, and a half dozen other chemistries. (OK some are technically not soaps but are still thickeners like polyurea and various clay formulations. Bottom line the soap thickens the otherwise runny oil).

With that said, the only reason to use a grease on a gun is because you need it to stay where you apply it. On guns that means a “grease” with enough thickening agent to not flow and no more.

I’ve had good luck with Tetra and ALG (Geissele), and gun butter. There are others and they probably work fine assuming they don’t have a stupid fomulation that hardens with time\O2 exposure (Frog Lube anyone?)

And as far as I’m concerned, TW25b was never the “gold standard”
