Is there a small CCW that you can actually shoot well?

I have to carry a smaller handgun if I carry at work. And since I am always working, well, you get the idea. Anyway, I thought I had found the perfect CCW. A WC ULC 9mm. I have looked for one for years and years. I thought it was a natural for a carry gun. It has a great trigger, is superbly accuarate, functions well. etc. etc.

Everybody talks about short reset and going fast. Well, this is the fastest little gun I have ever seen. I mean those splits are fast. But dang, every now and again there is a flier that can go anywhere.

Sorry to complain, it was just a dissappointing range day. I had hoped my search for a CCW was finally over. I am not asking for much. Just a small superb handgun that carries easily and performs like my Staccato XL

Well sounds like you already have the goat IMHO the ULCC in 9mm is it . However a close second is the NH Custom carry . I find the NHs a little more accurate just because of the square notch rear as opposed to the u shaped battlesight YMMV . Mechanically I am sure accuracy is the same but I slightly struggle with all Unotch sights. My square notch rear sight WCS are tack drivers .
Maybe try a square notch rear ?

I was taking about trying a set of Dawson sights. I do better with them. I just hate to change anything on it. I mean, it's nice!

First off a competition 2011 has nothing in common with a carry gun . You don’t want a 2lb trigger unless you plan on shooting your self

A good comparison to your question
Why can’t I find an economic minivan that performs like a corvette?

buy a Glock 19 or a p365 and practice.

I’m decent with a 365 and I rock a Glock g45. Both guns I carry

you will never find a carry gun that performs like a $3500 competition gun

competition guns help you be a better shooter than you are. Take some classes. Become that better shooter. It’s a skill. Take your carry gun and dry fire it daily. Shoot it weekly. Take classes. You’ll be awesome with whatever your current gun is

For the cost of the Wilson Combat, I wouldn’t accept getting random fliers (assuming this is the gun, not you, not a bad lot of ammo).

Fortunately, the crew here have given you the perfect solutions: $50K in guns they recommend and a continued search.

I could do likewise I suppose (DW Guardian in 38 Super is my favorite EDC), but how practical is it for you to run out and buy a $4500 NHC to see if that disappoints you too? I suppose if I were Elon Musk, I could just do that.

I sometimes carry in what I call “non-permissive” environments. For me, this is where there are small kids around and I know my nephew’s wife hates guns. Her house, her rules, fair enough. The last thing I want is one of the kids asking me about it. If I will be there a long time, I leave the gun in my car. If I am just there to pick up a kid or get something, I just prefer to not be noticed. I carry a Kimber 380 Micro. Yes, 380 - better what you have than what you left at home.

I shoot the little Kimber, and the P238, very well, consistently. I will absolutely hit what I am aiming at. The Kimber is amazingly accurate for a 380 - better than some 4” bbl 380s I own. That was not always the case. Lots of practice figuring out the unique grip. The 380 is a well matched round for this size gun. Kimber (and pro-gun control Springfield Armory) make similarly sized 9mms, but I think those are too small for 9mm.

I don’t think that comes close to meeting your requirements. So, I’ll just wish you the best on finding a something slim and small enough to carry given your situation. All the best.

It’s all just practice as others have stated.

I would never want to carry a gun I’m not very comfortable with hitting what I’m shooting. At least at 10-15 yards.

Yeah you can’t change physics but you can get good and fast enough to where a micro or sub compact should be fine for carry.

Somone else mentioned the P2000SK which is one of my carry guns in .40 S&W. Excellent option and definitely shoots great for its size.

I also rotate a CC9, NH T4, DW Valkyrie. Edit: forgot about the BodyGuard 2.0. That is an excellent shooter for its size and caliber.

Non are perfect, but they all have their advantage and disadvantages. It’s all about compromise if you are that uncomfortable with a smaller gun shoot or carry a larger or medium sized gun. With the proper rig or set up, you can conceal a full size easily.

It sounds like you have plateaued or gotten as good as you can with what you have. Sounds like it’s not the equipment holding you back at this point. Unless you just have some kind of unrealistic expectation.

A red dot or green dot makes a huge advantage on a carry gun.

Good luck!

I recommend the SIG P238 or 938. It’s very much like a 1911. I think at 7-15 yards it’s pretty easy to shoot. I put an MCarbo flat trigger and tritium front site on her’s. With the thumb safety up you can still rack the slide. Readily available, around 550$ and up mark, you can get a Legion version 938 and for a little gun it’s badass looking, aftermarket parts, holsters are abundant.
My wife qualified with her Sig p238 (.380).
The P939 (9mm) is almost the same, these shoot good and are small.
With the non-extended mag it will drop in a front or back pocket, works great with a sticky holster because they are so light.
At the very least check it out.

So you’re getting the occasional flier and it’s the gun’s fault? Perhaps you should Ransom rest test the pistol for confirmation and take “you” out of the equation.

I have a DW Eco that is uber accurate. But anytime I shoot it off the bench from a nice, stable rest and get a flier, I never blame the gun…I blame the aimer/trigger puller.

The two smallest in my EDC rotation are: a 3” Colt New Agent (1911-platform) and a 3.5” S&W 1016 (non-1911 platform).

Both are chambered in big-boy calibers, and I shoot both well enough.

Yes, for me it would be the Glock 43X and the HK VP9SK. I shoot both of them well and accurately. The HK is very accurate as I expected, but the Glock was more accurate than I anticipated..... it was a pleasant surprise.
