I've gotten narrow minded...

While I have a couple of CCO size pistols suitable for carry I've noticed that I don't even want to look at Commanders. It's gotten to the point where the only reason I can see to have that length is if it has the Officer grip frame. I didn't plan on thinking this way, but here I am. Same thing with front cocking serrations, I didn't use to even notice them. Now when I see them I don't even want to see the rest of the pistol. Then there is the high under cut where the grip frame meets the trigger guard. If that's not there I don't care to see any more of that pistol. Not to mention all of the spray on finishes that I call paint no matter what anybody else calls it. I thought I was open minded and liked most 1911 pattern pistols but I guess I'm downright picky. If I had a lot of money some therapist could probably finance college educations for his kids once he got ahold of me, lol.

Sadly, I have been heading that direction as well... There's no explaining some things...

I agree with the FCS. & somewhat on the finish.
Can't agree with the size, I prefer the commander, over all other sizes.
It fits me best and I shoot it the best.

Now tell us how do you feel about a bobtail? :p
Bob? :p

We likes what we likes. I'm a full size kind of guy. I think a CCO is a perfect carry 1911 but I just can not get away from the government model.

Hands, bodies and methods of carry are different. I like Commander size 1911s for carry myself.

Got to agree to a certain extent.

Paint is paint. Used to know/remember what the brand of paint was they used for it. You could go to your local paint store and buy a gallon for what they wanted for a pint, and in any color you wanted! The spray on/bake on paint does really well though.

Hate front cocking serrations too. See no reason for them.

I've been adding the high under cut where the grip frame meets the trigger guard to my 1911s for many, many moons. Easy to do, and I get to do them the way I want them done.

Didn't like the looks of the rails. Always thought they were a stupid idea. Bought a 1911 with rails to see if I liked them. They are a stupid idea and look bad.

I've gained a fondness for Commanders the last several years where I use to have no interest in them at all, now I carry them more than any other. I prefer an Officers over a CCO because the 3.5" barrel balances better for me with the shorter grip. I'm not a fan of spray on coatings on my own guns and can't stand FCS but I can live with them if the rest of the gun makes it worth it. There are many other things I like and dislike on my own guns but I still love to see them all when their posted in the forums, different folks tastes give me ideas for my own stuff.

While I've had a few Officers and didn't have any problems with them I guess I bought into what I heard so many say about Commander lengths being more reliable.

Well I guess my point is to start a discussion with some folks.

Yep I do seem to reach for the Governments or Longslides when I'm heading for the range.

This is like finding a comfy pair of shoes. You've found your comfy 1911.

BTW - I feel the same way about front cocking serrations. As I look through classifieds - if I see front serrations, I instantly hit the back button on my browser.

Nobody likes FCS, and yet the manufacturers keep putting them on. They are directly responsible for the popularity of the HP/carry cut. Something else I don't like but have learned to !live with is the extended beaver tail GS, ruins the lines of the gun, looks like a big swoop at the end of a signature. Pachmayr, Jim Hoag, and even Colt made much better looking grip safeties that were wider and shorter than original but worked well and look 100% better. I think it's Evolution Armory that is making a stubby one similar to Hoag's, David Clevinger is putting one on my Clapp Commander.

ETA: Obviously I meant Jim HOAG but the stupid auto correct turned it into "Host". For the record, I am not an idiot. :bang:

I like those stubby beavertails. Does the job without looking like some bad 80's haircut.

Just don't care for the looks of FCS.

Carry CCO's and Compacts all the time.

Rails? Not a big fan of the looks. But for my nightstand 1911 they are helpful. Rail mounted flashlight is better for me than having to carry a separate flashlight.

When you find the right setup, go with it. That's part of what makes the 1911 so great. Choices abound and there really aren't any wrong answers if it works for you.

Agree on FCS and huge beavertails, I'm agin em. Only barrel to grip frame configuration I don't like is the shorty barrel on a full size frame. Just looks weird to me. I prefer bluing but my recent semi custom from BP has Norrell's moly resin. Very even flat finish, wearing well. Could pass for a black oxide.

Carry the ECO because it's the best gun I got,but prefer the full size.
And I seem to like "bare-bones" best.
Good sights,good guts,I'm happy as a clam!!
