The Glock won't get a lot of love here, but .... find me a working man's carpenter - someone who today does framing, installs windows ager lunch, fixes a widow's deck rail after dinner and then builds his kids a treehouse in the near darkness .... check his toolbox - there will be at least one 16 ounce claw hammer. Oh, yea, a framer, a roofing hammer, a tack driver, a mallet .... but at least one 16 ounce claw. I put thousands of rounds through a 26 at work (and a 19 and a 17); my safe holds two dotted guns, a Staccato C and a Glock 26 with a direct mount RMR. Got some 1911s, Hi-Powers and some odd caliber stuff. But the 26 serves me well in a lot of outings.

The Gen5 Glock 47/19/26 are bomb-proof, as reliable as a hammer, and need only slightly more maintenance than one.. The G19X went through a lot of accurizing for the MHS trials, which the Gen5 guns all inherited. The G26 is a little short in the grip for me, but the g19 is perfect for conceal carry, and the G47 has some magic in it with the G19 recoil setup in a full size frame. Sooo soft shooting and quick followup.
What’s not to like?

It is interesting you find guys that either love them or hate them. I have both glocks and 1911s. As said above the 19 is perfect size for me as well. I tend to carry the glocks in the truck to get beat up and don't care what they look like. The 1911s I take better care of. For 500 bucks you cant beat them. But there is still something about carrying a hunk of 1911 steel that you don't get when you carry a glock.

Well, the usual suggestions apply:

  • Better sights
  • Smoother action ($0.25 trigger job, Wolff RP spring pak, different connector, GPT...there are oodles of options)
  • Moar mags (e.g. folks like the OEM 12 rounder - I did, and that's how I carried mine)
  • Optic if you are inclined and/or have the MOS version
  • Striker Control Device perhaps

I quite liked carrying with the factory 12 round mag when I had my G26.5, which I ended up selling because: reasons.

Good luck with it and let us know how it shoots.

Shoot it before you make any decisions on alterations. Don't shoot it just once, shoot it several times and get used to the grip (short) and trigger (meh). they are fine little pistols and, with some dedication will be a fine carry gun for you. The short grip is the only thing I would change by using a +2 magazine plate. Sights are good for its intended purpose, why spend $200 for sights on a gun that is intended for "up close and personal" work?? Point-and-shoot interface.

I carried a Glock 26, Gen 5, for work and off duty for about 7 years. It’s a reliable sub compact pistol and with the OEM 12 round magazines, it was comfortable and easy to get a good grip from a fast draw. For me, it was also easy to shoot as well as my issued G19.5 and have shot thousands of rounds through both. I’m retired now but the 26 is still my main carry pistol. Totally stock with Glock night sights. It’s also my road trip gun that I carry in a Galco ankle holster.

I bagged on the G19 and G26, sold all four. I found the G48 and the G43X to be better suited to my personal needs. The PSA "Micro Dagger" 15-round mags have worked reliably (for me) in both of them and give you the comfort of 15 rounds. The new G26X looks interesting, but I REALLY want an Operator AOS........... just sayin'

Got a Gen 3. Changed to Night Sights and a lighter connector. At the Glock Day at the range Glock Armour put in a New recoil spring. added a Streamlight TLR-6, a Hogue slip on grip, Xgrip spacers on 19 Mags, and added a little texture with a wood burning tool. It is butt ugly goes bang every time, and I can hit with it. carries in a Vedder clip on holster. Maybe it ain't that UGLY after all

Maybe learn to shoot it effectively with a "pinkie under" firing grip?
To me, you lose one of the key features of the G26, if you add a magazine extension or longer mag (while carrying concealed)

I got VERY good at shooting a G26 with the pinkie-under method, and thus maintained the primary reason that I carried a G26: The short grip frame!!

If I'm going to make the G26 longer in the grip (hardest part to conceal) than I might as well just carry a larger gun with a longer barrel/slide/sight radius

The short grip frame and the "hump" actually lock into my hand perfectly, like it was designed for me!

I never understood the extended mags on a 26/27 either. At that point, just carry a 19/23. The whole point of the 26/27 was the concealability of the frame, taking into account when the pistols were introduced. Today, the market has given us a ton of smaller guns with similar, or more, capacity. I don’t want to say they’re outdated, but that feeling is there at times. I carried a 27 on duty as a backup to our G22’s for years, as well as off duty. I’ve had a 26 of some iteration for at least 20 yrs now. I still carry one off duty, especially during the winter months when I can hide it better.

The only reason that I feel a G26 is NOT outdated is that good ol' capability to insert a magazine from a G19, G17 or even a 33 round mag.
For years, I carried a G26 with a G19 mag for backup. (I am Glock-less at the moment)

My Gen 5 26 FS works 100% with Magpul 12 mags. I liked the first two I got so much that I ordered 10 more from gun mag warehouse. I’d rather my 26.5 be an early one without the FS but they seemed to have trouble with the magpul mags. I traded my 26.4 for a 42 with 10 mags because I really missed my 42 and didn’t think I needed two 26’s. I carry mine in a 3 Speed Holster in the upper right of my appendix location. It allows you to get a firing grip easily while still holstered. My 42 goes on my ankle in a bug bite. I’ll post pictures of my set up when I get home.
