After reading all the negative feedback on current Dan Wesson 1911's, I'm broadening my search. Seems like from a $1500-$1700 price range, The TRP is left but OH. I want a 9mm.

Les Baer, seems to be next in line going up but I don't see where he makes a 9mm. This brings me to Nighthawk, Ed Brown, WC and the rest that start around $4,000. just cant do this.

I need 5" with rail, front stippling or 25 lpi checkering 9mm. Kimber may be the only one left. They have their TLE-RL in 9mm but I don't want the threaded barrel.

I'd go DW Specialist, I wouldn't let one mixed review deter you. Just make sure you handle the one you are going to buy before you sign the papers.

As a certified Les Baer fanboy, I would recommend staying away from the Les Baer Recon (only one with a rail), also Les upcharges $300 for 9mm.

You can buy LB from a dealer that already has it in stock.

Where have you seen all the negative feedback on Dan Wessons? I have a half a dozen of them and they are all outstanding pistols. Oh and me too Dan Wesson specialist. Even if there is a slight problem, Keith and Andre get the job done on the customer service end for sure~!

over on the 1911, cosmetic things, guns shooting very high. I sent Dan Wesson an email about the sights, they don't do anything at the factory as far as sighting them in. Just "proof" them and ship. Now I hear about a dealer possibly taking one for a ride, then repackaging it???

Just hate to read all these things, because I love DW.

I will say my guardian shot high out of the box, but all my other 5 were dead ringers. I think it just depends. The dealer needs his DW dealership taken away from him if he is gonna pull **** like that. I wouldn't let that deter you though. I mean thy offered to fix the sights on my guardian but, I got a set of fully adj combat ns and liked them alot better than the fixed sights anyway. Cosmetic problems should be blems. They are usually very picky about what they classify as a blem, some you wouldn't even know where the damage is if they didn't provide a shtte with it.

I'd go with the DW Specialist and wouldn't have a single worry about doing so. Don't let a few posts outweigh the gazillion good ones about DW's pistols. If by chance you do have an issue, they will take care of it.

Colt Gold Cup Trophy or DW Specialist would be very good guns for the (varying) money. I've not had (or heard) any problems from recent Dan Wessons. And if I did, I don't think it would stop me from buying another.

Of course you should not buy anything that you are not comfortable with. I can say there have been no cosmetic issues at all on my A2 Commander or Valor. The A2 shoots as accurately to 20 yds as my $2500 semi-custom from Benchmark Precision. I am much happier with the A2 after 700 rds than with a Springfield I have which cost about $100 less. Much happier than I am with any of my four Springfields, to be honest. But that's me. I did have issues with the two factory mags. I threw them away at somewhere around 100 rds and the gun has been perfect since.

I only have 100 rds thru the Valor, and have not shot it at distance. Will be doing that this wknd or next. But it's the only gun I ever bought that didnt so much as hiccup in the first 100 rds.

Get what makes you happy. But do take care when deciding how much weight to give to anonymous and/or unsubstantiated forum posts (the Addict who posted said up front he had suspicion, not facts.) DW could not make so many Addicts into repeat customers if there were significant problems.

I've had 4 DW's. 2 bought new and 2 bought used. I had minor problems with the 2 used guns that DW took care of with no questions asked. One was a cracked grip on a Guardian which not knowing the history of a used gun I was happily surprised they replaced for me. The other was a 9mm Specialist bought here from a member that shot high or low I don't remember which anymore. DW replaced the front sight N/C and turned it around in a couple weeks. Any gun is as good as the company that made it and as far as I'm concerned DW's customer service is second to none. That being said I do love my LB's.

I own a number of 9mm Dan Wessonn’s my favorites are a Valor,Specialist and Discretion/in that order and zero issues. Also own a 9mm Baer and it is at best problematic. Go with Wesson and enjoy a well made accurate gun that has great customer service if needed

The Dan Wesson specialist I just bought had two minor problem that was easy fix. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. This pistol is put together just as good as my edc x9 Wilson I had. Like other's said a few bad reports vs all the good ones. I don't believe the post about distributor shooting and repacking guns.
