Our Chief is in the process of getting a STI 2011 9mm for duty.

So now not to feel left out I'm thinking about a double stack 1911, full size with a rail (light required), thoughts?

    Whats out there?

Good enough to stand up to duty?

    Pics?

STI tactical is what they recommend for duty use. Lifetime warranty and mine has been very reliable. 6000 rounds so far, and no issues. They don’t recommend (or make) a duty 2011 with over a 4.1” barrel any more. They dropped the 4.0 and 5.0 and are just making one version of the tactical. With an X300 mounted, it fits in standard safariland ALS holsters designed for 1911.

Have 2 Tactical 4.0 - one in 9 and one in 45. Love em. My 9mm I ran through two Will Petty VCQB courses and got it so full of sand that I had to send it back to get recoated. But, it kept running without a hitch. While Glocks were going down, my Tactical stayed strong. But, as Ethank mentioned, they don't make a 5" anymore.

Check with Proforce.....Their current flyer shows they are still offering a STI Marauder model and it is a 5" with rail in 9mm. I don't believe STI makes them anymore but Proforce may have some NOS guns. Just a suggestion.
Edit: the flyer calls the pistol they have as a DVC 3 Gun but the pic and price is for a Marauder. The ad says it was designed for 3 gun. So maybe........They actual DVC 3 gun model is a grand more expensive.

That's for a Marauder- they call it out later in the ad. IIRK they used to call it a 3 Gun. Plus, no way they are selling a new DVC 3 Gun for $2k. But, it fits the bill of a 5".

I have 2 STI Tacticals, one older model and a new 2018 model I bought from Dan @ BBP. Great guns, I've run many thousands of rounds through my original without a hiccup and 4-500 flawless through the new model.

The new model offers $500-600 in upgrades for no additional price increase. DLC is over $400 for a 2011 and the Extreme Shooters grip is another $100-$200. Hell of a deal and Dan offers addicts special pricing.

I just got one from BBP, too, though I've not shot mine yet. Looks like this:

I just got to shoot an SVI today, I was absolutely blown away...and I have a EMP heavily modified by John Harrison. It's so good it's got me seriously considering an STI DvC Carry, or the new one that is being announced Nov 2nd. I would also want to get the HOST slide cut for an RMR. Also found out they offer LE pricing, email [email protected].

I'm rocking a TRP now in .45, but I want to go back to 9mm, and weight is a real concern. The TRP is great, but jeez it's a heavy SOB! Grip and barrel are too long as well, digs into my waist and the seat, real PITA. I hated Glock, but I LOVED the size of the 27 I use to carry. Also using an Inforce APL FWIW, great light, I love it.

Reckon I did, too. Honestly, for a duty gun, why not the blacked out CCC? If it's good enough for Thomas Magnum...

Dan actually has a blacked out non Magnim PI Costa Carry Comp for sale. It'll be cheaper than the Magnum PI limited release gun.
