I'm trying to put together my first carry rig for basic range/defensive work. I'm planning to use an avenger style OWB leather holster but am not sure what type of mag carriers to use. I want to be able to have 2 mags on my belt and wanted to know if people have preferences on using pancake style singles, doubles, snap on or regular belt loop singles.

It seems using the belt loop or snap on singles will give me the most flexibility in terms of placement or using one vs. two, etc. but I wasn't sure about stability.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

I use regular belt loop mag pouches...from Kramer leather...horsehide, they sell a single and a double / depending on situation I wear a single ...( a double at range )... and they are based on model ( like 1911, Sig 226, etc ) so they are sized correctly. They have a tension bolt ...so you can adjust the tension on how tight they are held. Kramer makes an excellent and very durable product ...it'll probably last your lifetime..

I prefer Kramers OWB scabbard style holsters as well...again horsehide...with a forward FBI tilt for range training / ( their IWB for carry )....again they are molded model specific... for a 5" 1911, a Sig 226, etc...so that they retain the weapon properly and guard the trigger properly.

Horsehide wears better than cowhide, it breathes better than cowhide and its easier on the finish of your gun than cowhide.

I picked up a couple of De Santis used on another forum. Really liking them. I have some kydex I like, but tend to break them at work. I prefer single mag carriers, less real estate, and placement is better. These are adjustable, so you can snug the mag a bit for carry, and if you want, loosen it up a bit for range use. I think this is it: https://www.desantisholster.com/f-t-u-magazine-pouch/

I carry DeSantis but they are getting spendy these days.....Same style as I carried years and years and years ago shooting IPSC. Then it was 3 of these a single and a loose mag in the hip pocket plus the one in the gun.

These days I just carry a double pouch as I don't look forward taking on 20 plus bad guys with hostages.

I will leave that to you young dudes and I will hang out in case you need help.

Will you list a URL for Jason Fleming. I did a search for his mag
holder but no joy. Thanks.
He moonlights making holsters and usually can't keep up with demand from local word of mouth advertising and his low prices. He also just took a new day job and said he'd be staying slammed. I just looked for his photobucket page with all his pics and looks like he's taken it down. I'll post it up if I can find it. His trade name is Chief Jason.

I usually run a single but for certain occosions I like two singles. They just work better with different belt loop configurations.

I like that inline mag holder. I have a sheath for my automatic
knife like that & it is fast & handy. Have not seen an inline mag
holder before, but I bet it's handy & fast.
Thanks Fieldgrade

Chiefjason is more active on carolinafirearmsforum.com where nearly all the mods and active posters went when the other forum was sold to a media company. He's been a little scarce lately due to the demands of his day job.

That mag carrier I pictured above I think was his first design. Good looking, but it's cumbersome to get on a gun belt. He made another version that has two snaps, one on each of those straps, which is easier to get on an off your belt, but the snaps are really secure, meaning hard to snap and unsnap. I had one for a different style pistol mag.

You can contact him on those websites, CSC, or CFF ideally, and send him a message to inquire about his latest design for horizontal mag carriers for 1911. He pretty much makes things to order, although he keeps some hybrid kydex/leather OWB beltslide holsters in stock as he used to sell those in some volume on EBay.
