Anyone have experience having this done? Thinking of having a 696 4" done. It's a great gun and I don't want to screw it up. Maybe just let it be. ???

I had several of my 44 mag revolvers Mag Na Ported and if I could undo it, I would. The biggest difference I could feel was a lighter weight purse.

This is my #1 wheel gun and I don't what to make a mistake I might regret later. Maybe I'm what you could call "Gun-shy".

The magna port came standard on my Taurus Raging Bull .44 magnum and .357 Magnum. They are very pleasant too shoot

I am having it done on my Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 magnum (Model 0802) custom build from Tyler Gunworks. The barrel will be changed from a 7.5" round to a 6.5" octagon with magna porting. I figure I am not getting any younger. It added $100.00 to the cost.

It will hurt you bad if you decide to sell it in the future...

I really don't think I'd ever sell it, but that did cross my mind.

IMO the Con's out number the Pro's. I have passed on buying some otherwise very nice revolvers because of them being ported.
Last week I bought a 696-1 with 3"barrel and it's apples and oranges yours is 4" but I wouldn't want mine ported.

well if you shoot factory Ammo it’s likely not worth it. If you like loading hot it’s nicer to have.

If you shoot lead through the gun that'll make a bit of a mess as well.

I have to admit that it was a pain in the ass to clean up after shooting black powder loads! :O

Thanks you all for the reply's. I'm not going to do it. This was my Duty gun when I was with the County S/O. It shoots great as is. Yawl probably saved me some grief.

If you're looking for recoil reduction, look into different grips. The Hogue X frame rubber grip will fit a round butt K/L/N/X frame and is a good choice.

Because of your contributions Ms. Wolf, I have scratched the magna port on my customized Ruger Super Blackhawk that Bobby Tyler is working on right now.

You can always have it ported later, once ported, you cannot however have it unported.

It's not worth doing on a .44spl, it's a low pressure round so you'll get little, if any, benefit from porting it.

I had one of my 629’s ported and won’t do it again.

Sadly as has been pointed out, it can’t be undone.
