I came across this article about a man in Alaska who got his face ripped off by a grizzly bear (warning: graphic content):

    http://americanshootingjournal.com/man-survives-bear-attack-but-loses-face/amp/

I think I would rather take a bullet to the head than have to endure what this guy is going through. Somehow, I find the idea of death easier to cope with than the idea of suffering extreme injuries such as this.

I admire this man's spirit, though. The two men that were with him also deserve praise for keeping their heads together and coordinating the rescue.

Another reason I try to stay away from animals that can eat me.

I thought his face would've been gone, but it wasn't. Bear injured him pretty good though, I feel bad for this man.

I used to live in Alaska and though there were no animals that could eat me on Saint Paul Island, I would read local news about the multiple bear attacks every year there that often do not make the "big" news. Most people do survive, but only because the bear is usually shot somehow. Brown bears or Alaskan Grizzlies are related in species to the lower 48 variety, but due to their diet and lifestyle, are much larger and basically the sentinel predator wherever they are. I have read plenty of stories about them being dispatched with this handgun round or that small caliber rifle round.....sorry to say...the Doc would want a Barrett .50 BMG at 1/4 mile.

I knew it was gonna be a grizzly when I saw the title of this thread. They have a fondness for mauling the face/head area.

I believe that is due to their being so tall, they reportedly bite/maul the heads/face of humans who are standing.....but even a 6.0 foot male is giving up 1.5-2.0 feet.....OMG!!!
