This one came to me as do many of my guns do, in a text from my enabler at my LGS. “Can you come in today? I’ve got something for you...”

So I went in.

And he shows me an M1911. Not an A1.

All original including the grips and magazine.

Dates to 1919.

Of course it now resides with me.

Enjoy! I certainly am.

Nice!
Those pics show how unchanged the 1911 platform is. Cool.

Great find! In that era, were the slides completely hardened? In other words, can it be shot extensively?
Others will know better than I do, but I do not believe they were hardened real well.

I’m going to shoot it sparing, with gentle reloads.

That would look really cool with a Re-Cover grip & rail system, and a laser, and a scope, and ambi-safeties and a big scoopin’ magwell chute and a fake compensator! (But don’t get front cocking serrations they suck.)
And don’t hard chrome it. It will never fit in a period correct flap holster again.
