Honestly, I keep a Sig P938 in my car, meets all of your requirements and it's a heck of a gun

I advocate not leaving a gun in the console unless it's in a safe. In which case it won't be easily accessible.

Which brings me to the point that you should just have your EDC gun on at all times, and when in your vehicle. Just my two cents.

I may have the need to open the door and grab the gun quickly from the car.

Uhh. You should NEVER leave a firearm unsecured!!! How irresponsible can you be. You can buy a mediocre lockable car gun storage/safe on Amazon for less than $40.

I don't leave a firearm in my console unsecured. Where did you get that idea? Certainly not from anything I posted.

Those all steel CZ compacts have a very nice balance to them.

Check out console safes, they have them for larger Jeeps like Grand Cherokee.

I remember reading that 9mm is not the best choice when windshields are involved. Of course I am sure there are plenty of tests going either which way.

Since you didn't ask for advice on gun handling..........
I'll say the 75 Compact would make a good choice.

Advice on gun handling would be welcome. I have a smaller Cherokee, not a Grand Cherokee. I am approaching a possible situation but not in that situation yet.

I am another in the camp of Never Leave your Gun in a car....Why would you want to do that other than get your Coffee of SillyBucks or maybe shop at Targeet where they allow to to carry. I get up in the morning and put it on, I do my running, eat my dinner, and when ready for bed I take it off.

When you go to your car in a parking lot in the wee hours of the morning in a bad part of town. Not all of us work night shift but some do.

I always liked a shotgun or rifle in my truck, but not in the city. I liked to keep my handgun on me.

CZ compact is an excellent car gun. I had one riding around with me for years, and switched to a Sig P226 with extra mags in my console. My console is fairly large, and it's mainly a carjacking gun, or some crazy terrorist event at work gun.

So my take on this is that everyone that has the gun in their car has it locked up in some sort a safe while they are not in the vehicle. Is that pretty much the standard procedure?

I just have my EDC on me at all possibly times so it negates the need for an additional "truck gun." But if I did have one in my vehicle yes SOP would be as you described.
