I have a brand new unfired SA RO Elite Operator and while trying to field strip for cleaning and lubing the slide will not go forward to disassemble from frame. This doesn't have the ILS and has a GI guild rod. I've removed the plug, recoil spring, and slide stop. It only moves a few millimeters forward. Will be calling SA customer support but wanted to see if I was doing something wrong.

Does the slide move rearward at all?

Yes the slide can move rearward all the way and the barrel can move freely back and forth.

    Does the ejector look bent?

Be more aggressive pulling it forward

Push the slide back. Push the barrel back. Shake well. Flip gun slide down, grip up. Try again while making sure the barrel is fully seated in the slide.

Ejector is fine, I've tried using a lot of force, upside down you name it. I'll have to buy a rubber hammer tomorrow and give that a good wack. Will be calling SA customer support also. Maybe fitting is too tight on a brand new pistol?

I would call SA customer service before you use the hammer.

When you move the slide forward, does it feel like the resistance increases gradually or do you feel more of a solid "thunk" and then the slide stops moving forward?

I am thinking its the recoil spring guide rod. Try putting the recoil spring back in to keep it straight as you remove the slide.

I hope this doesn't come across as condescending or rude, but you do have the magazine out, right?

Slide just stops when moving forward a few mm. Tried with recoil spring in while keep the guide rod straight but no luck. There's not a mag inserted :)

Maybe try it with the barrel bushing off, since you are running out of options. Do you have a local gunsmith you can run it up to? That's odd!

No ideas but I'm very curious about the outcome. Good luck!

This is unlikely on a properly built gun, but I wonder if the barrel link pin is loose and out of center or if the link has shattered, with some metal fragments sticking things up.

Try taking the slide off with the gun inverted - grip facing the ceiling. Shake it a bit inverted to free up any potential fragments.

In for the outcome. SA will email you a prepaid shipping label and square it away.
