I had a chance to handle a new python and noticed a weird looking scan code thing on the frame. Anyone know what this mark is for ?

I think it takes you to a link for the owners manual. Not that I approve, but that's progress.
So unnecessary and ruins the look. Got to be a atf tracking device!

Contain just a date (either manufacturing date when it was tattooed or when it was packed and ready to ship, not sure which one), SN#, and Model # on the code. So it is for easy inventory and logistic that can be scanned and logged to computer quickly without the need for manual proof of SN# when it went from assembly to packing to shipping out of factory warehouse.

Good information - still hate it - but thanks

Yes Colt began doing that awhile ago on their 6920's as well. I don't like it however the new pythons seem to be very well made, I have 3 vintage pythons all in royal blue and I plan on buying a new 6 inch Python when that model becomes plentiful again.

I hear they are working on a black polished DLC model as well. ( A few 3 inch models have been made already in the Colt custom shop and they look fantastic).

I have one of the new stainless 3" guns, but I'd be in for one of these too!

Here is the picture of the black DLC from the colt custom shop. I do believe colt may be making more of these in different barrel lengths soon.
