Just received and installed the new Dawson Precision Tool-Less Guide Rod in my Staccato P:

https://dawsonprecision.com/guiderod-sti-4-15-bull-barrel-tool-less-by-dawson-precision/

Of course, it will need a full function test at the range asap. But my initial opinion is this guide rod is a welcomed modification and awesome product! Polished smooth as glass, and includes a proprietary 13# spring. The ease of take down vs the stock STI retention tool makes disassembly of the top end so much easier!

I feel confident Dawson will offer a couple different springs in the near future for those wanting to tune for specific ammo being used.

I have one in a DVC P.

Can you not use standard, Commander RS’s with the Guide Rod?
I do with the one I have.

Running Wolff Commander #12 with Major 9mm and 8# with Minor.

You bring up a good point! I would think you could; but Dawson has this in the Description:

Dawson Tool-Less Guiderod fits factory STI 4.15" models, 9mm only. NOT recommended for 40 S&W or 45 ACP. It requires a proprietary length recoil spring Medium Part# coming soon.
Think I'll call Dawson tomorrow and see if I can get some tech info.

I saw that.
Figured it was a revenue generating statement.

(A Commander length guide rod should function with ANY Commander length spring of appropriate weight- that is my thinking)

Please let us know what Dawson's tech says.

Wanted to share this info...............

Just got off the phone with Dave Dawson, and his customer service was exemplary! With regards to the new Tool-Less guide rod for the Staccato P, and other models,
Designed to fit STI Tactical 4.0, Ranger II, Ranger III, Tactical SS 4.0, Spartan IV, and Staccato P.
it starts out as a Commander length 13# spring but has to be shortened since the Stac P and others utilize a 4.15" barrel length vs a Commander's 4.25" length. This spring will work with all SAAMI spec commercial ammo. Recommended replacement is 3,000 rounds in a competition gun; and 5,000 rounds for a range gun.

Wolff is manufacturing these springs exclusively for Dawson, and they will be offering a 3-pack of the standard springs along with a 3-pack of different weights for those that want to tailor their springs to specific ammo/power factors. These will retail for under $10.00, and he hopes to have them up on the website today or tomorrow.

He has a new video featuring the new guide rod's features and operation. Should be on YouTube very soon.

I received my Guide Rod last week.
The included 13# spring was heavier than I needed shooting minor.

There are 20 coils on the included spring.
I cut coils off a 11# Wolff Commander spring to end up with 20.

I ran a hundred+ rds. through it with no problem.
The lighter spring made a difference in muzzle dip as slide returned to battery, naturally.

Do you know if Wolff will offer individual springs of different weights Hog?

I like your idea of modifying the Commander spring......did you happen to mic the wire diameter and compare it to the stock, 13# Dawson spring? I don't happen to have a Commander spring here at the moment...........

I have no idea if Wolff will offer anything for the 4.15 tool less guide rod......only thing they advertise for STI/SVI are magazine springs.....

I do have one of Dawson's 11# springs that I could count the coils on and measure wire diameter if that would help. Just let me know. :)

If your attempting to duplicate an 11#, the Dawson's are under $10 for a 3-pack......

I did, measure spring diameters. They were same on a 13# Wolff Commander spring and the one that came in Guide rod.
The 11# diameter wire was obviously smaller.

10 bucks for the 3 pak isn't bad, from memory Wollf sells individual RS's for about $8.
