If I felt as though I really needed a new full size 1911 with a rail is there any negatives, any reasons not to buy a DW black duty Specialist?
Should I put another $grand together and wait for a Professional?
Should I buy an SA Operator and upgrade its important parts putting the same cash into it as the Specialist?
What think ye?

Specialist is an awesome gat, built with quality parts. It will get the job done.

If you have aspirations of wrenchin it, get a SS model, not the Duty Treat model.

The DW has hardened (rc50's)tool steel/stainless ignition parts. The SA TRP & OP have MIM parts. They simply are not as good as tool steel parts. Don't want to discuss that. I change those and pedals and pins in ALL my SA guns. I don't own a pro. They are top grade through and through. It's about $400 in these parts including extractor and stop.
The SA guns are a great buy and very solid frame/slide/barrel fit. A good foundation. I would not be changing parts in the DW, maybe a Harrison short trigger and I dislike stainless finished guns. Gotta be black/blue/parqed for me. Are the DW S/S frames/slides tough strong non galling ???

Buy the specialist.. Galling was a issue about a year ago seems DE has remedied this issue. The black duty treatment guns never had a falling issue. I have DWs with over 30k rounds through then still running like a top.

The DT finish is as durable a finish as any.
The specialist is a great value.
I like everything about mine except the ambi safety.
I got it from Dan at BBP a sponsor of this forum.
I got it at a great price and I'm sure if you give Baltimore's Best pawn a call he could help you out.
Dan is a great guy to deal with.
There is a thread on this forum I think it's a featured thread about most value for your money 1911.
I think Dan even started the thread an said the specialist was it.
I happen to believe he is correct.
It is one of the best values in the 1911 platform.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
