After liking my WC92BT so much I thought maybe it deserved a friend, so today I picked up a Beretta 96G-SD. Like the WC92BT it has the Brigadier slide and is a decocker only, but .40 instead of 9mm.

It barely has any wear, the rails looked nearly brand new. It's going to get shipped off to Wilson for
    Battlesight Rear Sight,
Action Tune with all new springs,
    Short Reach Steel Trigger,
    Elite II Hammer,
    Contour Magazine Well,
    Mag Guide,
    Round Trigger Guard,
Shorten Barrel to 4.7" and Reverse Crown,
    Steel Guide Rod, Fluted,
    Oversize Factory Beretta Magazine Release,
    Steel Ambi Decocker Lever,
    Dehorn for Carry,
and then to my local Cerakote guy. Color suggestions welcome!

Once that's all done I'm thinking I'll pick up a Bar-Sto .357 Sig barrel. Oh, yes... :sneaky:

Just got this thing all cleaned up. My guess is the person bought it and put one or two boxes of ammo through it and then put it back in the box. Once clean and lubed everything was gliding along nicely. Not quite as smooth as my WC92 but still very nice. The trigger is so incredibly horrendous. We'll see if I can hit anything tomorrow.

I think I've got my color figured out. Since my WC92 is Burnt Bronze and Graphite Black I'm going to go with Tungsten and Graphite Black for this one. Cerakote Tungsten has the same metallic tinge as Burnt Bronze so I think they'll make a good looking pair.

Look forward to that! I toying with the idea of doing a two tone thing with my Inox now. Stainless slide with a blued/blacked frame. I do like the idea of Tungsten.

It costs so little to get a pistol Cerakoted that I'm a bit more adventurous with color. If it wasn't so inepensive I probably wouldn't have had the stones to get my 92BT done in Bronze. Plus, arguably, it's the best spray/bake finish on the market.

Alex at WC called me today and told me my pistol was ready. I was quoted 8 - 12 weeks and it was less than 3. I have horrible luck with custom shops so I asked him to send me a picture of each side.

Awesome. I'm on a Beretta kick (again) myself lately, so can really appreciate this fine gem.

Why, oh why did Beretta stop making the G-SD, Elites, Vertecs, etc. :(

I put 100 rounds of Federal 165 gr RTP through it on Saturday. I had one failure-to-feed early on and then smooth running. Oddly enough my BrigTac did the same thing our first time out. This was my first time shooting a .40 that wasn't a Glock and it's a pretty soft shooter. My Glock 23 is Mag-na-ported so the muzzle rise is minimal but this 96 will give it a run for it's money. The 96 has more muzzle rise but less hand-felt recoil so it's less taxing to shoot.

I cleaned it up last night and dropped it at the Cerakoter this morning. It'll probably be done somewhere between Wednesday and Friday. I'll snap some pictures of it all pretty like and then head to the range next weekend to break it in and make sure there's no post-coating issues. I'll take the opportunity to run some 165 and 180 grain HSTs through it as well.

Cool, looking forward to seeing what color combo you go with. Hopefully I will take custody of a nib 92f compact (no rail) this week. Then its going to Wilson for the carry package and G conversion. I am leaning towards an Armor tuff grey frame and black slide. But I might steal shamelessly from you and go with a bronze type frame color with black slide. That look really grew on me.
