New TRP... is this a crack?

I noticed something on the slide earlier but thought it was just oil, as it appeared to wipe off...
I sat her down on the bench for a while, and the anomaly came back to the same spot on the slide.

I took a harder look, and it appears to be a crack... what I cannot tell is, if it is just the Cerakote finish or in fact the slide is cracked.
I did not see it in the first set of photos... and I just brushed it off, who would think a "quality" forged slide would crack after only 150rds
I am already not happy with this one, and now I am borderline furious with myself for even picking her up yesterday... always go with your gut!

What say you, is the slide cracked?
I will be putting in for a warranty repair... but wanted to get some insight from those who know more than I.

Thank you for your time!

I suggest shooting it awhile before selling it. Springfield is a good company with a good product. I understand you're sour on it now, but give the new gun a chance. The TRP is an excellent pistol.

Everyone is feeling manufacturer and shipping delays. Look at the recent thread about Nighthawk orders.

Every manufacturer also has this happen. I can guarantee you if you search, you'll see plenty of folks who have had warranty work for Nighthawk, GI, ACW, Wilson, etc.

Hell everyone rags on Wilson's ballcuts not lining up but I recently saw a 1911 going for 3-4xs as much as a Wilson and the ballcuts were the worst I've ever seen.

So give it a chance. My bet is that you'll love it.

This isn't my first TRP, nor Springfield for that matter...
I agree they are for the most part great pistols and sweet shooters, and yes, every company produces a lemon now and then.
However, there is more to the my displeasure of this particular instance than this failure... mostly cosmetic changes made for the new/current production models.
I will not be keeping the replacement, and it will most likely end up in the classifieds here, or at my FFL for consignment.

" but I recently saw a 1911 going for 3-4xs as much as a Wilson and the ballcuts were the worst I've ever seen."

Not all builders or owners believe they should line up
with the end of the dust cover.

@Uncle Bob ,
Please clear this up for me. I thought if the same frame (or internal mechanism, ex: Sig 320) was kept, it is considered the same gun with the same S/N. If the frame is swapped, isn't this a different gun by definition? Therefore it must have a new S/N and be treated as a different gun? Can a manufacturer issue two different frames with the same S/N??

Hope I worded this well enough for you to see my quandary. Anything you can do to help me understand this is appreciated.

Sorry for the sidetrack.

My knowledge is a bit out of date to be completely honest, so no help for a pistol like a Sig and the way they're serialized.

However a pistol like a 1911 with the S/N on the frame is what is registered. When. Colt shipped out those screwed up out of spec Gold Cups, we had a discussion about new frames with serial numbers matching the flawed frames, but they didn't so new 4473s had to be done for delivery to the customers.

If Springfield is replacing the pistol and it's a new frame, new S/N so yes, new 4473.

I honestly do not keep up with Sig pistols except superficially.

Final follow up on this one...
After another month of waiting I asked if it was possible to get a refund, and to my surprise, the request was granted.
I had to provide them with a copy of my receipt, and 3 weeks later I had a refund check in the mail.

Despite my unhappiness with this experience, I am pleased with the final outcome.
I appreciate the customer service rep's commitment to maintaining a happy customer.

This was/is the first time I have had such a failure with a Springfield 1911, and I hope this was just one of those times where a lemon unfortunately made it out of the factory.
I am no longer soured on the the thought of picking up another Springer, and I did buy another one with my refund.

Being that I am no longer soured on the the thought of picking up another Springer, I bought another one with my refund.
I hope the new one runs great👍🏼
