Opinions vary greatly but 20 years ago the Baer Thunder Ranch Special was for me the dream 1911. Perfect proportions, everything needed and nothing you don’t. I remember clearly the first time I saw it in a magazine, I dreamed about it. I had to have one and also had to wait (I hadn’t cracked the mental barrier spending that much on a handgun). It did not disappoint. Same idea separated by 20 years (from inception not discontinuation) Nighthawk was going to produce this concept. From the moment I saw the NHC Thunder Ranch combat special I loved it. It was the perfect gun in every way for me. I had to have it but again I had to wait because I had not mentally crossed the barrier of spending this much on a handgun, a new level. The Nighthawk is perfection. The slide is like glass, every part of it is absolutely perfectly fitted and blended, the smoke nitride is amazing, there is nothing I do not love about it. The Baer and the Nighthawk have similar finishes separated by 20 years one was done in the factory and the other from honest use both are now smoked. I have both of these on a podium of never sale. They are just downright perfect. I may sell other 1911s but these two will always have a place and tell a story of where I was in two parts in my life and the evolution of the addiction.
