    • Hit 3,000 rounds on Friday and decided to do the first detail strip on Saturday. I am not one who loves to clean so typically give my guns an exterior wipe and oil frequently. Not a single issue in the 420 rounds fired on Friday. The details of the fit and finish are incredible. I love looking at the inside of this gun.

Hit 5,000 rounds today with a 900 round count on the 11th and 700 today. I have had 2 issues with one magazine. The only mag I use that is the Tripp Cory mag. It is meant for long loaded .40/10mm and has a hybrid follower. Both issues were the round being loaded ends up being bullet up at the bottom of the ramp. Case still partially in the mag just vertical. It was also at the 2nd or 3rd to last round in the mag. It is no concern to me as it is isolated to that mag.

The 10 other Tripp Research 9R-40SW have been flawless. There is a difference also as the standard .40 mags have a spacer for the short factory round.

I get to train pretty much anytime I want and often find myself at one of
The ranges a few days a week. Work related so it flys with the bosses.

One of the Ammo Storages. Over 120k .40S&W In here, around 250k 9mm and over 300k 5.56. Have 2 other locations. But mostly .40 in those spots.

Got to 6800 rounds this Saturday with the local match. Had 3 weeks of no shooting with a Christmas vacation. Not a single issue since I relegated the mag to dryfiring. Stock Cobra .40 mags have been perfect.

9,120 thru her as of 2/7/20 match. Running real strong. I have had more issues with Glocks than this gun. Running Sprinco 16lb springs now and even went with a shock buff which I have never run in a gun. I noticed some marks on the spring guide that I didn’t like so put one in it. No issues with the gun running, just wanted to prevent wear. Runs just like it did before the buff. I have noticed some odd barrel hood lug wear that GI says is common with melonite finish but I may send it in for a check up after Western States Single Stack. I typically no not clean other than a wipe down and oil but decided to do a detailed cleaning today so took some pics.

Little update. The wear at 12k was bugging me. I sent it back and GI was awesome about it. Replacing the whole top end. Not sure how long it’ll take as I don’t want to bug them.

    Good customer service is nice.

Building $3k+ guns properly to begin with would be better.

So, the pistol was good through 12,000 rounds at which point it basically needed to be replaced?

It showed some wear on the hood at 7,000. GI was contacted then. They were contacted again at 12k and advised to send it in.

So on Friday I had a missed call from Alex. Called him back at 1800 and he was still in the shop. Spoke a bit and called him back on Monday. Spoke about 20 minutes. He said he has only built about 30-40 guns in 40S&W. Of the thousands of 9mm and 45/50 he has built, he has never has seen a gun with the same issues mine shows. Spoke about possible doing a 9mm top end. He said he will make some changes to the new 40 top end and if I get to 10,000 round or so and it shows wear again, he will redo it and build me a 9mm top end. He does not expect any of the issues after the 40 rebuild but just incase. Having the reassurance from him is comforting knowing he is going to do what it takes to make it right.

Well I got the gun back Mid July. Have put 3,100 through the gun since the new top end. Had one of my most consistent matches this last weekend also. Love beating A-M class limited shooters with a single stack. Glad to report that I have not had one malfunction of any kind. Sticking with Tripp .40 mags and it is flawless with factory Federal 180g. No sign of the barrel hood wear at all. Will keep posting about the progress with more pics.

Wish I had 350k rounds of ammo, even all my calibers combined, sitting around!

Can you show an example of the kind of wear it was showing that was concerning to you?

Look closely at the pics posted in post 25. I would have been concerned too.

Are you saying there was wear to the finish, or degrading wear to the parts?

Could you describe the gun (make, model). Does it look like it is beefier than a standard 1911 so it takes the higher chamber pressure and battering better? I am in the market for a .40cal that will not fall apart.

I think 'concerned' is a bit of an understatement. Looking at the barrel's upper lugs and the slide's upper lugs in post #25, they are junk IMO. As in I'd throw them away. And I wouldn't let the original builder touch the replacement pieces. But that's just me.
