Odd Facts about the 1911

    I'll start with some odd facts. Add to the thread with your own.

    1) use an empty 45ACP case as a replacement to a lost spring plug.
    2) use the hammer strut to punch out the MSH retainer pin to remove it from the frame.

    #2 can also be done with the firing pin and it is a bit less likely to bend.

    Weren't the grip screws slot heads so you could use the rim of a .45 to remove them?

    I think the lip of magazine was meant to remove the screws.

    I thought the slide stop could be used to remove the MSH Retaining pin, and the lip on the base of the Magazine was for the grip screws. The barrel bushing could be turned using the bullet of a standard ball round.

    Sear spring removes the mag release.

    The mag lip also can be used to depress the spring plug.

    The 1911 was designed to be its own tool kit. There is a great video on youtube showing a complete strip using no tools. Not just a field strip but a complete strip of the gun.

    It's a wonder they haven't made one in that style already. How durable do you think that would be?
