It was only a matter of time. You can't expect the greedy to let you spend money without them getting their cut.

    Tax increases are inevitable.

    Budget cuts are inevitable.

How much is still to be determined..........

I'm surprised that it has taken this long. I purchase many big ticket items online (guns) because I can save a couple hundred bucks on taxes. For smaller purchases, not paying taxes covers the cost of shipping which makes online shopping practical, especially since I live in the middle of nowhere.

Problem is.. who pays the tax.. and to what state?

You buy something from me... and I'm in Michigan.. and you're in, say, California... which state gets the sales tax?

They will both want it. They will both fight over it.

This is going to get ugly. The internet is the last bastion of free market.

You mean "wet their beak" as they say in the business.

It got ugly in SC earlier this year. The state, Amazon, Walmart, small business were all fighting about who would or wouldn't collect taxes.

I can see them going after business owners, mainly because there are records to audit.

Now I've seen it all, this is to level the playing field. What a bunch of crap, these people just don't get that not everything in life is fair. Because someone has a superior business model and can sell and ship anywhere, of course the government must punish them

What happens in states that don't have sales tax? I haven't payed sales tax on anything in 10 years and I plan on keeping it that way.

Same thing going on in Illinois. I believe the state wants to tax you at the end of the year for your online purchases. I guess they have a magic dollar amount that they are going to use to tax everyone. Not everyone buys things online. My grandmother, for example has never bought anything online but she will still pay. Since the state is Liberal Democrat run, it will pass.
