This is one of those “the rest of the story” type things, because I like learning about the stuff we never hear about, and I like the people involved.

Pistol Annie and I do some classes at the gunsmith school at Montgomery Community College in Troy, NC. Great school, great people. This weekend Annie is taking a Cerakote class. The gunsmith program director is Mark Dye. He’s the resident 1911 specialist and has done work with a few 1911 semi-custom companies I’m aware of and probably more that I’m not. (Plus, he helped me with some stuff on my Springfield Champion last summer. So there’s that.)

I will relay this short story as best I can, but I was not there. Annie was. So some small details may be off but the interesting part is correct.

This morning Mark comes in and is talking to the Cerakote instructor (a sharp guy they call Mongo) and showing him a unit trigger. He’s explaining it’s a drop-in 1911 trigger he’s been working on for quite a while and patented. Says he licensed it to Nighthawk and they’ve been refining it for production and finally got it ready for release just before SHOT Show.

So the Nighthawk drop-in trigger was invented by the program director for the gunsmith program at MCC. BTW, Nighthawk also provides 1911 kits and parts for the school in Tishomingo, OK. So Nighthawk the company has working relationships with several of the country’s gunsmith schools - which is good.

Annie was telling me the story and didn’t know anything about Nighthawk or who they are. I knew about Nighthawk and the trigger but had no idea about Dye’s and MCC’s involvement. I thought it was interesting. Maybe some of you will, too.
