I tweaked a Mil-Spec Defender a few years back, this even though out of the box it was as fit as the butcher’s dog.
  • EGW ignition set & FB FP stop
  • USGI mag release; thumb safety; slide stop; trigger; grip panels & N.M. barrel bushing
  • Smith & Alex’ MS housing
  • Wolff springs (C&S light sear spring)
  • Primary Machine black nitride (barrel)
  • Not pictured, Kart 400 Cor-Bon barrel

So I would like to see if anyone with experience with blending can offer some tips and tricks.

I assume I should do a general fit and reassemble and test fired before blending the beaver tail and slide frame. Iam installing a new MSH, BTGS, Thumb saftey extractor.

Have always loved the Milspecs for a build base-gun, just wish they’d make one in 9MM so I could get it cut for a true Novak front dovetail and do as I pleased with the rear sight rather than being locked into the Low Mount format (I’ve been preferring adjustable iron sights on fighting guns for a while now, though RDS is king—GI-style rear sight cut also leaves some more meat for some RDS cuts).

If you’re gonna do the beavertail work and you’re not looking to build a “clone” anyways, I don’t see as to where a high cut front strap and some checkering ever hurt anyone instead of the Pachmayrs… ;) :p

I will say if you’re not feeling squirrely enough to try the checkering file out, I was pleasantly surprised by how effective the Wilson “foil strip” checkering appliqué can be with careful installation.

Do you have a YouTube or video reference for front strap checkering that is your “go-to?” I have fit thumb safeties and trigger shoes but that is my next step.

Got a deal on this with Case and three mags, the way they SHOULD come anyway.

I like the MEUSOC style guns but I was Army and don't care about "clone correctness" so I am going build like it's 2005, going to Iraq and the 9mm M9 just isn't going to cut it. I am thinking harrison TR ignition kit with commander hammer. Wilson match medium trigger. Cut in a Wilson beaver tail. Harrison rear sight, not sure on front maybe stock or trijicon or big green dot. Surprisingly the firing pin stop is NOT cracked lol, but will get replaced along with the extractor. Probably rock Pachmyer grips until I get the nerve up to checker the front strap. Can't decide if I like the curved Mainspring housing. Maybe a chen, will see. First order will be beaver tail and de mim. Then sights and grips. Going blend the beaver tail frame slide in back and maybe dehorn. Ounce the fitting is done i would to send it master gunworks for to give a ounce over and tune the ignition parts. Then try my hand at parkerizing. Off to order parts.
Base Springers make for good V3/Gen 3 MEUSOC builds. More here:

I was up early today coffee dip time to work. I didn't like the giant wale tail on the grip safety so i got after it with the file.

I started on the top knocked it down flatter then worked the sides to get the body lines back

I used a socket and a extension wrapped in sand paper to sand the top file marks out and work the slide and frame some more
