Just curious how everyone else has developed their preferences through the years as to size/caliber of 1911 they prefer.

I started with full size, got into officer and commander size, and now seem to be back to full size.

Seems to me the full size models are more stable and accurate, though I have had smaller ones just as accurate. Weight never really bothered me one way or the other. Maybe it's the older eyes and the longer sight plane.

    I've had 9mm and 45, I like both, maybe 9s a bit more. But I do have one 45 I really like.

I like the .45 more than any in a full size and a beavertail as I get hammer bite. For carry I like the 3-3.5" models. Just started shooting the 9mm and love it, but some of that is price of ammo. Shoot a GSG .22 bunches as ammo is real cheap. Still a full sized .45 is my fav..

5" .45acp. But I don't have my 10mm from Wilson yet so it might change.

Full size just feels right for me, I've never tried a chambering I didn't like, I need to add a 10mm and a 38 Special at some point.

    I have Kimber a CDP compact and a super carry pro, Taurus S.S., and G34, G27 and G 36, and Springfield emp9.
Seems I carry the 36 and exp most of the time as weight does make a difference to me, but shooting for fun it comes done to the Taurus go figure.
Old eyes do like the longer sight plane.

Same here. And also add .40S&W, 10mm and .50GI to that list too. :thumb:

Don't call me a snob, but .50gi is the one I absolutely love. 5" of course.

What's the appeal of the .50GI?

Its probably the gun more than a round, but the round itself is very satisfying to shoot for sure too. Big holes, very accurate and nice feel. Good choice of FP/HP and different weights from 185 to 300gr all in .50 cal.

    Out of 8 1911's,only 3 are 4.25's.
Only 1 of the 8 is in a caliber other than .45acp( 9mm LB PII)
Out the three 4.25 guns, only one gets regularly shot(Mono Commanche).

That is the only one that is part of my regular CCW rotation. As far as 1911's that are part of my CCW rotation,it's just the Mono and 1 of my 2 TRS 5" pistols.

    Love the 5" 1911's! :thumb:
