RIP, Sir! Condolences to the Bush Family.
A truly dignified and well respected President. My personal hero, my uncle also flew these TBM Avengers during WWII. They were the largest carrier based plane of WWII. He was the sole survivor of this downing by anti-aircraft fire over a Japanese held island. The other crewmembers, I believe I read, were captured and later cannibalized by the occupiers, causing President Bush to later write that he thought of his aircrew every day. He brought respect and resolve to his Presidency and while he was not thought to be as "revolutionary" as Ronald Reagan, followed a very popular president and that had to be a more difficult path than his predecessor who followed Carter and a period of general ambivalence and lassitude.
He was the greatest living American when he left us. RIP
