Horse traded into a SIG RCS 1911 . It's basically an Officer size alloy frame with a Commander size steel slide . All my other 1911's are full size steel frame guns , so alloy & smaller frame are new to me . It's used & in good shape . Have taken it down & inspected parts etc . I plan on changing out all the springs & running a bunch of ball through it to see if there's any issues before I put it in the rotation . I'd assume it takes Commander size RS 18-20lb . Main spring Officers size 23lb ? I'm also going to get some Wilson 47XO mags as factory ones have unsupported steel followers . No +P ammo & carry load will probably be the Fed 230 HST # P45HST2 . If it stays around long enough I might have a ramped barrel installed . Any tips or tricks to keep her up & running trouble free appreciated . I've used all kinds of lube over the years from synthetic motor oil to TW25 . Anything special needed for an alloy frame ?

I have an alloy frame Kimber with over 15K through it. I clean just like a steel frame and use FP-10 for lube. I also have two alloy frame CZ PCR's with 3.5K and 1.2k through them. I do more frequent recoil spring replacement with the alloy framed guns.

My lightweight 1911s do not get any special treatment, except making sure for non-ramped barrels that the magazines used do not have those older style followers that can damage the ramp.

And no need for things like oil under the grip since these frames don’t rust

Nope, just clean, lube and shoot. I have over 7,000 rounds through this old Kimber I have had since 2013

UBOATDOC, ZoidMeister and blamo like this.

    No special treatment needed.
