My LGS had a Springfield Milspec Defender in stock when I stopped by today. I wasn’t really ready to buy anything so I had to put it on layaway. But I’ve been wanting a more basic 1911 to use as a chore gun. Was looking at some RIAs but for only $100 or so more the Springer seemed like the better choice. Even though I prefer the old roll make over the “MILSPEC” one. Great fit and finish for the price.
What do y’all think? Do y’all like the basic Defender guns?

A few months ago my range was sponsoring "Springfield Days" with a factory rep on site with samples of most of their pistols to try out. I posted about it, all I can say is that I shot the Mil Spec Defender better than either of the Garrisons (blue and stainless). I almost bought one but the timing wasn't, and still isn't, right lol.

Enjoy, I agree and feel they are worth every penny of that $100 difference.
I held a RIA and the Springer both today, and it was obvious to me which I liked/wanted more just based on the feel. I have no issue with RIA, and they offer a lot of different options which is nice. And if I ever found one under $400 I’d probably pick it up just cause.

Do y’all have any recommendations for immediate upgrades when I get it? I know I want a Wilson extended mag release, but are there any weak parts that should be replaced on these?
