Question about replacing G.I. sights

Newb question here; I'd like to replace the GI sights on my Auto-Ordnance A1 because the mil-spec sights pretty much suck and would like to replace them with Trijicon or Meprolight tritium or FO sights. The rear sights are a dovetail and the front sight is a post.

I'm not new to firearms but am new to 1911s and would like to advice on how to measure the front post hole and rear dovetail so that I order the correct replacement sights. I already have a staking tool and have previous experience replacing the sights on my wife's PT1911 but I got lucky and just happened to order the right sized Trijicon sights.

Thanks for your time.

I would recommend you send your slide off to have it dovetail cut and then a dovetail sight installed. Stake on sights are annoying.

Novak does this if you don’t have a gunsmith you like to use and you’ll get your slide back in about 2 weeks.

“The safest place for a ship is in the harbor, but that is not what ships are made for.”

Tell that to the Pacific Naval Fleet Admiral in charge on 12,07,1941!
