Had it a week. Went to the range this morning and overall accurate gun, but did have some issues. Had three ftf, one on last round in magazine, and two on next to last. Also had two fte. Both of those were on next to last. Didn't take pictures of the failures. [IMG]

    Nice looking pistol.

    What magazines are you using?

Yah. The factory Baer mags are notoriously not awesome. Run some quality mags (Wilson, CMC, Brown, Tripp, etc) and I bet those failures go away.

My Baer took close to thousand rounds before it became perfect...
Yes get some quality mags. I have been very satisfied with CMC+ mags..

Anything against checkmate? I've always had good luck with those in other 1911s

Use Tripp cobras, and run the pistol Wet , ( heavily oiled ) for 500rds
Before cleaning , The slurry created will smooth pistol during break in . Always use top quality magazines.

Think I will get a couple of a few brands. I did oil it before the trip. Haven't cleaned it since I got it and not really sure of the history. Bought it 2nd hand. It is a hillsdale, so an older example. And may have been a safe queen, because the thing is tight like new.

Don’t waste your money and set yourself up for disappointment .
Wilson and Tripp mags are proven preformers .

Yep stuck with Wilson, Tripp, CMC mags as they will work. Definitely sounds like a magazine and break in issue.
Keep it oiled and enjoy it!!

    You’ve been commancheed.

Hopefully different mags get you up and running.

Failures to extract are probably extractor related (unless your ejector broke or something) and you should tune that (or pay somebody to tune it). New magazines will not fix this issue for you.

Failures to feed may be extractor related as well (where in the feeding cycle was the round stuck?), so they may go away after the extractor is properly tuned.

Nothing wrong with buying some nice Tripp mags though, I sure like them.

Round was up the ramp, stuck between it and breech face. Not my pictures but look like the examples below. [IMG][IMG]

From what I read, if its a tight extractor that is causing failures to feed you should see the rim of the case stuck on the extractor. If the rim did not even reach the extractor, it’s something else.

Also, you can take the slide off and then slide a round under the extractor and see how that feels? Did it take excessive pressure to slide the round in? Too tight. Is the round falling out if you shake the slide a bit? Too loose. Is the extractor tip contacting the case correctly? (Google this one)

Wow you spend 2 to 3 grand on a high quality 1911 and they deliver it with shitty mags... THATS JUST WRONG... BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE.

MY STI was delivered with good mags, my Dan Wesson was delivered with good mags , my Springfield Armory was delivered with good mags.

    Enough said.
