    Hi all,
What are your favorite sources for exotic 1911 grips?

Challis Grips makes some absolutely gorgeous grips. I am a huge fan of their Mammoth Tooth grips but at $1200, they are quite expensive. Is this a reasonable price for such exquisite grips or are there other for affordable options that look and function just as well?

If you had up to $400 to spend on a pair of exotic grips, what would they be?

    Thanks, Phillip

If I had $400 to spend on grips I would get RIAs.... for $400 you get a full size .38 super 1911 with them.

I'm not a big fan of mammoth tooth, but I dig mammoth ivory!
$425 ain't bad for those grips.

    Yes those looks super!

Do any of you guys have experience with such Mammoth grips or similar? How usable are they? Unless one is unusually hard on their 1911s, are they significantly more likely to break than normal wooden grips?

My favorite ones - I always promised myself that one day I'd own a set of ivory's to go with some old antlers on one of my 1911's.....found these a few years back at a show for like $300 and ALMOST passed on them "because expensive".....yeah, looks cheap by current standards!

If they are made with a backing material like G10 or other, they are just as durable as nice wood.Typically they are hard but can be brittle. Therefore they don’t really dent but could break if they don’t have a backing substance

Mammoth tooth I bought from a member here. Well made but the maker has proven to not be very trustworthy so I can’t make a recommendation 05ADF0A3-FF24-4C6C-9169-A40238823C9A.jpeg
